Kundalini Yoga Set #6 - Online Yoga Poses to Lose Weight
Weight Loss Kundalini Yoga Program Video
Free Online Yoga Video Series
Background of Online Kundalini Yoga Techniques for Healthy Weight Loss:
Don’t be deceived by the apparent simple nature of the yoga exercises that constitute this set. Once you begin to practice this program you will realize its profound benefits to healthy weight loss and much more in a relatively short period of time.
The eight yoga exercises that form this set come primarily from the schools of Kundalini Yoga & Hatha Yoga. They, like all yoga poses and movements, work on your being at many different levels. This potent set is designed to not only help you lose weight and burn fat effectively, but, also helps you significantly at an energetic and metabolic level.
The breathing exercises done in conjunction with the movements, help expand you lung capacity, improve your circulatory system and raises the internal heat of the body, thus helping it to burn up and eliminate toxins, dead gases and waste products.
For safe and healthy weight loss, practice this set daily if possible. Start off doing each exercise for only about 30 seconds or 1 minute each and then build up from there. Use the modifications that are provided if you need to and be sure to pace yourself.
If you need to take a short break between the exercises do so, otherwise do them in sequence one after the other without rest. The purpose of this kundalini yoga set, is not only to help you loose the weight, but also to develop a healthy, fit body full of abundant energy.
For complicated postures, illustrations have been provided. Also, provided below is the Breath of Fire Breathing Exercise Video, as this kundalini yoga pranayama is extensively used throughout this set.

Instructions for Kundalini Yoga Exercises for Healthy Weight Loss:
1. Yoga Arm Raises:
a. Guided Instructions for Yoga Arm Raises:
- Stand up tall.
- Inhale deeply through the nose as you swing both your arms up with palms facing forward.
- Now swing the arms down and powerfully exhale through the mouth. The exhalation is brief and powerful. Just throw the air out of the system.
- Continue at a fairly brisk pace, swinging your arms up and down in this fashion in conjunction with the breathing.
b. Duration for Yoga Arm Raises: 1-5 mins
c. Benefits of Yoga Arm Raises:
- Very effective in getting your energy going.
- Expands your chest cavity and lung capacity.
- Throws all negativity out of your body (toxins, negative emotions, stress, negative thoughts). Assist this process by visualizing any negativity that has been troubling you being expelled from your system as you exhale.
- Works on your shoulders, promoting flexibility and strength.
d. Practice Tips for Yoga Arm Raises: As you develop mastery over this exercise, try to work through the discomfort in the shoulders this exercises produces. You will notice that after you get past the initial points of resistance, the energy pathways open up and the exercise gets easier.

- Continue standing.

- Works on your legs.
d. Practice Tips for Kundalini Yoga Jogging: To modify this exercise switch to normal breathing, if Breath of Fire is too much to do. You can also not bring the knees up too high or just continue to walk/march in place instead, if you feel over worked.

Anmol,
Stoked to see you add this latest yoga series - I have already been recommending class #101 and #102 to my physical manifestation overhaul clients. Now I will have something specifically designed for weight loss to give them!
The response has been good too - the beauty of your classes is that they are free, you can do them anytime, and they don’t take too long. These three reasons remove many of the barriers to regular exercise for some people.
Plus I believe that effective weight loss starts on the energetic level - which is why I am even more happy about having this class to recommend.
Thank you!!!

Anmol- In doing research on power/powerlessness and the 3rdh chakra, I came upon your website. I started doing this exercise set, and I begin my medition with bellows breath. It’s been a week and I feel the energy shifting. I feel stronger as a being and I also feel the uncomfort of the release of stuck energy. All of this to day I really appreciate your sharing of this information. peace and blessings, zor

Zor,
Fantastic to hear you are reaping the benefits of this set & bellows breath (Bhastika Pranayama). The cleansing is an unavoidable process in the path to spiritual evolution, approach it sensibly and please don’t over do it. BTW: The combination you have selected is actually the 2 components of the next course I was putting together… you are one step ahead of me my friend :-)

I can honestly say that a regular early morning yoga practice, (sadhana) for the past 3 years has led me to not only lose weight but shrink in waist size. I actually need new pants now. It’s kind of funny because when I started my yoga practice in this life time, my goal was not weight loss, it was simply a naturally occurring side benefit.

Perfectly said. The side benefits of yoga and meditation are so enormous, but yet compared to the discovery of Truth they pale in comparison.
There are several articles here that explain these side benefits… the following may be one which others could be interested in regarding “side benefits” of a kundalini yoga and meditation practice.

hey there… first of all, superb program! and thanks for that free video too.. just wanted to ask, cud u explain the pop-corn pose in a li’l more detail, coz i think i’m doing it wrong, and i cant really make out the correct way from the video…is it like throwing the legs in the front, trying to get off the ground?
on April 28th, 2008 at 7:02 pm
Yeah that one is a bit unusual to say the least :-D.
So you curl up and hold on to your knees, head can be up off the floor (that works better for me). Then just try to launch yourself off the floor towards the ceiling.
So in other words you are trying to “pop” your whole body off the floor (keep holding your legs though). The work will be done by the abdominal muscles to accomplish this.
If it’s still unclear let me know. I will try to explain in other creative ways :-D.

hi anmol,
thank for this site i have been doing yoga asanas for 4 months but were really not benifiting from weight loss …but ur excersices look really promising…not to forget to mention ur commitmant and ease of showing the asanas….
i have 1 little problem …i do suffer from acne..is there ne asana that helps cure this?
on May 5th, 2008 at 2:10 pm
This set is specifically designed for weight loss, and if you do it consistently, it should certainly help you lose weight.
For acne reduce pitta (heat) in the system. Diet is key for this but also try Sheetali Pranayama at it will help. Also, reduce emotional stress (try SoHum Meditation) and try not to be too bothered by it… after all you are an infinite being, you are not the body :-D.

on May 18th, 2008 at 9:23 pm
To reduce heat in the body, you should follow a Pitta pacifying diet (see Introduction to Ayurveda) and also practice Sheetali Pranayama.
Yes mixing up the exercises and yoga sets is very good for weight loss. Do this set 3 times a week and see you the body responds.

Hello, Anmol! :D
I am going to start this wight loss program. I believe this to be promising and I expect good results! ^_^
Only a few questions I have, though: Is it okay that I do not have a yoga mat? I’ve seen some yoga programs that require it but I do not own one. Second, I do not have a spacious enough room to practice these exercises in. Is it okay to practice them outside? Suggestions are welcome!
May God bless you, ♥ Jess
on June 2nd, 2008 at 3:34 pm
Expecting good results is half the battle won :-D !!
No mat required. As you see I did the set on a carpet with a light covering. Outside is great too, it’s just when you do Pop Corn be sure the surface is soft enough so you don’t bruise your back :-D.
Also, careful about doing the set under direct sunlight if it’s hot where you are, as it can be quite vigorous at times (keep fluids handy).

Hi Anmol,
I decided to add this routine to my morning set as a kind of cardiovascular workout. Surprisingly, the most difficult part for me was the yoga shake and dance! There was a strong emotional resistance to starting this one, for some reason. Yet I felt very nice after trying it for a while. Strange.
Thank you for the help,

Dear Anmol,
I don’t find words to describe your valuable efforts, taken to reachout to the stressed, lost souls like me, with your free yoga classes.
I am bit concerned about my weight and thus browsed thru some search engines and how lucky I feel to stumble into some unexpected treasure like your website.
Life had been quite harsh with me, but being very optimistic and spiritual, I believe in that every dark clouds have a silver line (which I am desperately hoping to reach it sometime, soon?) However, I had heard about Kundalini yoga and Hatayoga thru my father during my teenage but I never gave a serious thought till now…..You made it happen thru your simple, easy to understand illustrations thru texts and videos. I just started a day ago and will continue to practice it. Simultaneously, I just cannot let me stop to browse further more thru your website and taste the nectar of the beautiful Yoga,(which I am ashamed to say, being a Hindu, was ignorant about it, when I lived in India).
However, it’s never late….. and I am happy and very grateful to you for taking so much pains to bestow your knowledge to us.
Thanks and best regards,

STARTED THIS MORNING. GOT A BIT BREATHLES WITH THE MARCHING EXERCISE, BUT I AM SURE IN A FEW WEEKS I WILL BE FITTER. THE MOMENT I STARTED THE ARM RAISES I FELT BETTER, I SUPPOSE ITS PSYCHOLOGICAL, SO WHAT, I FELT BETTER THATS WHAT COUNTS.
on December 30th, 2008 at 5:58 pm
Yes, this set is designed to build up your fitness and you will see those results in a few weeks as well.
The arm raises are very good, they are excellent for purging the system of all garbage - physical, emotional and mental - many students find that to be their favorite exercise.
Let me know how it goes, some parts of the set can be adjusted (like doing other stomach exercises for pop-corn) to keep the body challenged over time.

Hi
I have lots of fat on my breast area and stomach. I feel shy to wear any tight tshirts.
Could you please tell me what kind of exercise should i do to decrease my breast size ?
on March 5th, 2009 at 12:35 pm
Consistent practice will be key to reducing fat throughout the body. It is hard to target fat in particular areas, although you can tone muscles in specific regions.
So I would recommend to you, Kapalbhati Pranayama and this weight loss yoga set.
To tone the upper body region, I suggest the Heart Chakra Balancing Set.
Also, be nice to your body and don’t judge it harshly. It is life’s great gift to you. Work with it and it will work with you.
Love & Light,

[…] When starting a yoga practice, I recommend taking classes, as a teacher can correct your postures in a way that can’t be done while watching videos. Like having a personal trainer when exercising, having a yoga teacher can make your learning curve that much less steep. For those of you familiar with yoga, here is a great kundalini yoga kriya set especially for weight loss. […]

Namaste Anmol,
Your work is really ANMOL like your name… :)Thanks a lot for sharing it with us. I joined your class today and I have been practicing: Bhastrika, Kapalbhati ,Bahya, Anulom Vilom, Bramari and Udgeeth pranayam in same order for about 30-35 mins from last 1 month, but I am not able to do kapalbhati in the right way, when I inhale my stomach goes in and when i exhale it comes out. Please guide how to correct myself?

To help you correct your breathing. Place your hand on your stomach with the finger tips (index and middle finger) gently touching. Now when you inhale ensure they are coming apart and when you exhale ensure they are meeting again.
This additional cue can help correct your breathing. If not let me know, I will suggest another technique.
Thank you also for your lovely feedback :-).
Best,
Anmol

Second method.
Lie on your back and place 2 heavy books, one on your tummy and one on your chest. Now as you inhale try to make the books rise up and as you exhale allow their pressure to help you expel the air (they will come down).
This is a very good technique, hope it helps.
Best,

Hi Anmol,
Thank you so much for giving us this wonderful opportunity to become healthier. I have begun your fast weight loss yoga video today. I am about 165-170 lbs. and never before weighed this much except pregnant and on bed rest. My goal is to shed weight to my most comfortable weight of 120-125.
Will working out to this video daily do this for me, or do I need to add something(s) else? I am 49 and see that you told a woman to do 1/2 of her normal exertion during menstruation. Is there any kind of variation for menopause?
Also, I have suffered from migraines since Nov. ‘94 from an auto accident. Can this help those darn migraines, which also become very active during menstruation?
How long should I expect to see result in weight loss? I am very excited and thankful to you for this opportunity to look and feel great again!

For optimum results I suggest the Breathing Exercises in addition to this Yoga Set. You will find those breathing exercises in the following program (you can skip the meditation portion of this program if you like)…
Free Healthy Weight Loss Program
I have seen many students get results just from the breathing exercises, so if you are able to commit to both then the results will surely follow.
Early results will be a boost of energy, vitality and spirit. This will be followed by the weight loss.
My wife had migraines as well, which went away after she began a consistent yoga / pranamaya practice (they come back during menstruation if she neglects her practice for a few months).
Try Anuloma Viloma Pranayama to help w/ the migraines.
No variation required for menopause, except my Golden Rule, which is please start slowly and build up gently over time. Don’t rush and don’t over strain. The benefits of yoga and pranayama are widely known, so just be consistent, enjoy your practice, enjoy your life, the rewards will flow.
All Good Wishes,
Anmol

Anmol, Thank you so very much for your response. I am now looking for the Anuloma Viloma Pranayama, but am only able to find Bhastrika, Kapalbhati and Breath of Fire. I ran a search of your site, but can’t seem to find it. Am ready to begin practicing it and seeing/feeling the results.
Thank you again for providing this wonderful healing avenue for all to use and be or become well.

Anmol, What can my two daughters do to alleviate severe menstrual cramps (debilitating). I went through many years of the same and looked for help in the regular “medical community” with no result. They suffer so much as I did and I know there is something that can be done, I just haven’t found it yet. Can a certain kind of Yoga stop it and keep them from being so sick and bed ridden for days at a time?
Thank you so very much. Being new to Yoga, I see this is incredible!

Hello Anmol,
Let me begin by thanking you for this wonderful website! I’m a beginner and I’ve been wanting to gain some useful online information related to Yoga, but couldn’t find any till I came across your website today. Congratulations for such an awesome job!! :)
I’m 5′3′’ and I weigh 67kgs. I used to be underweight till around 3 years back (42 kgs), and have put on huge amount of weight (thanks to my working pattern) in the past 3 years.:( Furthermore, I have noticed a tremendous decrease in my metabolism-rate. On top of this, I am quite fickle-minded, which has been my biggest challenge. I’ve always wanted to practise yoga, but didn’t know how to start with it. Thanks to your website, I am pretty hopeful of overcoming the lack of focus as well as reducing weight in the most healthy manner. I would surely keep you updated regarding the results. :)
I have 2 questions for you:
1. What should be the maximum and minimum frequency of practising “Yoga for Healthy weight loss”? (per week as well as daily)
2. Is simple yoga available for people who are 65 or above? If yes, where can I find the details?
Thanks again!
Cheers,
Varsha
