Teaching Yoga & Kundalini Yoga Class

Yoga Teacher’s Guide

(Please note this is now a combined document for easy reference, and part 3 has been appended below parts 1 & 2).

(Part 1)

My good friend and author of the great Yoga Blog PranaFlowNZ, Kara-Leah Grant, dropped me a note the other day with a suggestion that I give some pointers on how to teach the yoga techniques and meditations that I publish here on Mastery of Meditation & Yoga.  I thought this was a great idea, and so would like to kick off this new topic with a discussion of how to teach a great yoga class in general first.  Also, going forward I will include teaching tips for the exercises and meditations as well that make up the free yoga & meditation e-books and videos.

Warming up for a Yoga Class

Yoga Tips for Teachers

In part 1 of the series, How to Teach a Fantastic Yoga Class, I explained that there are typically three sections to a Yoga Class.  These I called, Orientation, Warm-up and the Work.  In part 1 I also went over the orientation section and discussed what items one should cover in that section.  In part 2 here I will cover the Warm-up section, which when well put together, goes a long way in helping make the class a terrific experience for the students.

Explosive Kundalini Rising In Yoga Class Today
Kundalini Yoga & Meditation Classes Series

As I looked around in class today I noticed the students were all experienced with Kundalini Yoga.  Although from a Yogic perspective the few months they have been learning and practicing Kundalini Yoga is not much, given the power of this system, I know it is not insignificant either.  What this allowed, of course, was for me to take the class up a notch in terms of level and difficulty.  I also know that many of these now experienced students actually relish the challenge of more advanced Kundalini Yoga Kriyas, so this was the perfect chance to teach them that.

Yoga & Meditation Classes:  Silent Mind Yoga & Meditation Center

Since the start of the Kundalini Yoga Classes just a few months back, we have seen a steady stream of new students join and benefit from the program we are offering.  This then led to starting the Gentle Yoga and Meditation Class, which too has received a very nice response and is steadily growing in popularity and participation.  Today though, I noticed the Kundalini Yoga Class has reached maximum capacity and so to accommodate the new students that are keen on joining, I have decided to start another Kundalini Yoga Class on Saturdays starting June 30, 2007.
