Treating Kundalini Syndrome | 7 Effective Tips

Kundalini Syndrome Symptoms

Grounding Kundalini Energy

Although raising Kundalini Shakti (Energy) is the goal of many practitioners and yogis, sometimes if kundalini has prematurely risen or if the energy is too much to handle, the very opposite is needed.  The energy needs to be grounded and Kundalini needs to be brought back down.  From time to time I am approached to help in such situations and as I mentioned in the article, Kundailni Shakti Help and Advise, I would put together a guide for how to deal with this type of Kundalini Syndrome and how to manage such kundalini problems.  So in this article I would like to offer you some ways to deal with this condition and reduce the affects of kundalini if they are getting unmanageable.

Before I present the tips below I would like to direct you to 2 articles which will go long way in helping you avoid Kundalini Syndrome in the first place, by ensuring that Kundalini awakening takes place is a safe and natural way.  These 2 article are, 10 Guidelines for Kundalini Yoga Practice and Dangers of Kundalini Yoga.  These 2 articles will give you the right way to approach Kundalini Yoga and Kundalini Awakening.

In general, the majority of people suffering from Kundalini Syndrome, who have approached me, have practiced Chakra Meditation exclusively and excessively.  So please we weary of doing that.  Don’t just focus on doing Chakra Meditation and Chakra Striking.  Instead focus on doing a balanced yoga workout and living a balanced spiritual life.  This will help avoid the issue of premature kundalini awakening.  Also, there are other tips in the above articles to help you avoid kundalini problems such as abstaining from drugs, etc, which are definitely worth knowing about.

Here below are 7 useful ways to help control kundalini energy if indeed she has gotten out of hand and is causing your grief.

Treating Kundalini Syndrome Problems:

1. Be with Nature:

The essential goal with regard to grounding kundalini and alleviating kundalini syndrome symptoms has to do with bringing down the energy and lowering the frequency of it’s vibration.  So some of what is going to be suggested is going to mirror what you would do when trying to heal and balance the Root Chakra, and in that regard, reconnecting with nature and earth is very helpful.

So spend time in nature, especially near trees and the earth, and you will find this very useful in bringing down the energy.  Try to be as close to nature as possible, so sitting up against trees or walking barefoot on the grass is what you should be trying to do.

Along the same lines, gardening or other landscaping activity which gets your hands dirty are also highly recommended.  Go ahead and do some potting and weeding.  Not only will you get your garden in shape, you will also start to manage kundalini.

2. Do Physical Work:

As indicated above, the objective is to get yourself back into the body and reconnected to the earth and one of the good ways of doing that is with physical labor.  So if you are suffering from too much kundalini, then counter it with such laborious tasks.  Anything that requires physical work will help.  Carpentry, construction, painting, etc are all good to do.  Any interest of yours that also requires physical work is good to do.

3. Do Physical Exercise:

If your condition allows you to exercise, I would certainly recommend doing so.  This has the benefits of making you more body oriented as the method above, but in addition it will also help you fight any anxiety the kundalini syndrome might be causing.  If you are able to exercise, you will feel more confident about your health and so will not be so stressed and fearful about what is happening in the body.

4. Eat Full Meals:

Proper and regular diet is always recommended for good health, and in the case of dealing with excessive kundalini energy, eating bigger heavier meals will help you feel more grounded and settled.  Again, as you can see, the goal is to feel more in your body and more connected to earth and your life, and food is certainly a strong source of this connection.

5. Avoid Stimulants:

If kundalini energy is out of control then you do not want to stimulate her further.  So it is important to abstain as much as possible from stimulating foods and drugs.  So during this time, alcohol, drugs, coffee, tea, etc should be avoided.

6. Take a Break from Your Spiritual Practice:

As tip number 5 above, you want to stop stimulating the energy and so it is important to take break from your spiritual practice until you feel you can better handle the energy and the situation.  This step here is a very personal decision, but generally speaking, if you are suffering from kundalini syndrome, then your practice might very well be out of balance, and so it needs to be re-evaluated anyway.

Often, the aspirant is doing too much mantra/chakra meditation or perhaps is listing to Binaural Beats, etc and not balancing their practice with physical yoga and simple spiritual activities, so in these cases it is certainly recommended to stop what they are doing and establish a more sound and balanced practice.

7. Rest and Relaxation:

Sometimes kundalini is working within you and you just need to relax and give her a chance to do what needs to be done.  In these cases you need to trust her intelligence and give your body a chance to go through the cleansing and purification taking place.  In general, being relaxed is very important when dealing with kundalini, as getting anxious and worried about kundalini awakening symptoms only makes the situation worse.  This is often why in the past, kundalini yoga was practiced in an ashram or monastery, where you have the time and space for proper kundalini awakening to take place.

Another good way to relax, which also helps to calm kundalini is to take warm baths.

Summary of Treating Kundalini Syndrome:

Kundalini awakening is a very personal journey and the experiences vary considerably form person to person (read Kundalini Awakening Symptoms).  So you have to listen carefully to your own body and heart to see what is the right course for you.  If though the energy has become too much for you and the symptoms are causing you trouble, then the above guidelines can help you get things back under control.  Some of this will be trial and error, but in general the above tips have worked well for others to whom I have recommended them.

If you are suffering from kundalini syndrome, worrying will not help, so try and trust the process that is taking place, while at the same time acting intelligently and taking steps outlined above to ground the energy.  There are even more ways to help bring the energy down and in a future article, I will share those with you as well.

If you are someone who has dealt with Kundalini Syndrome and have overcome the difficulties, please do share with us any tips that worked well for you.

Hello Filip, read ur post and wanted to help u as I was suffering from the same problem and found relief now ( not completely yet but 90% gone). This was taught to me by a teacher at SKY ( simplified kundalini yoga) in Chennai . What u have to do is a grounding meditation. Sit in a quite room on a comfortable posture. Close ur eyes. Chant the mantra “AUM” and as u chant imagine that the kundalini energy is flowing from top of your head (crown) to the root chackra( midway between genitals and anus) and settling in root Chackra. When you start “Au” your awareness should be at crown and slowing move awareness down the back of ur head through the spine to end at root when u finish with “m” . Do this in a relax way , don’t force it. After a 1 hr meditation for the next many hours you will experience the kundalini enery flowing through various nadis like droplets of water flowing in your nerves and settling down at root chackra. Your head pressure will start vanishing slowly in a week or two after doing this meditation everyday twice

its dangerous! real dangerous. its look like playing with 15 meters cobra snake. even in india there are not many master yoga who can deal with cobra. my kundaliny was realest from muladhara chakra to sahasra by stress full life. i got headache and tension in my head . after 20 years i found it was kundalini . i started pranayama and more exercise. after all i put snake out of my body i felt better but the energy started to effect my family and even weather! so i stopped pranayama. the snake goes back and seat on the my lower brain again and the tension started again. kundalini yoga needs special life. i have familly and i don’t have time to exercise yoga and watch out snake :) its special job . not recommended for general people. i thing if you want to raise your kundalini the best place is your heart chakra. i always feel i am mad and crasy.

To control the Kundalini – practice three times a day. Find a quiet space. Sit in an upright position. Visualise a light amythst colour in the third eye area. Visualise this colour travelling over the top of your head right down the spine to the base. Increase to a medium or deep amythyst colour depending on severity of the problem. Visualise the colour right on the head and spine as opposed to away from the body. Eating regularly will ground you. Sex makes the kundalini active – for a calmer kundalini – reduce this activity. Outdoor activities will also ground you – walking/exercise. Over practising meditation will stimulate the kundalini. Hot baths are also helpful. Not too hot.

I tried kundalini nostril breathing at a conscious camp (ie no drugs or alcohol, vegan food). I knew nothing about it, and just expected it to be relaxing. Soon unto it I started tripping…and it scared me! We were told to keep our eyes closed, and I tried to go with the flow, sticking with it to the end. I saw egyptian pyramids, eyes, snakes and then it was like i ws moving forward down a long road or wide tunnel and faces all looking at me. ..one after another, loads of them. Creepy. I felt i had been ‘seen’ by so many faces and I didnt like it. What the hell happened??? I privately told the class instructor afterward, and she just gave me a big smile like a cheshire cat… she gave me no answers. I wish someone could tell me because ever since then i have hever been the same.

I was sad to read you have been frightened by a meditation experience Anne. Your teacher is not doing her job properly by not discussing this with you. It is common for people with active kundalinis’ to see many things similar to what you saw. What scientists describe as ‘dark matter’ – what we see as air around us contains many different dimensions that we cannot see. All that was happening in your meditation session is that you were getting a glimpse into those dimensions. You were very fortunate – this is nothing to be frightened of – just keep an open mind.

Thank yo so much Anne for describing your experience….I had the same and my initiator just replied via email saying just observe energy….I stopped meditating all together but early morning Universal energy comes on its own I see these faces, hands and feet NOT knowing what to do….I emailed many healers ..they simply reply to keep meditating. Oh and I stopped Binaural Beats….thank you for pointing that out. I listen to it to help balancing my right and left hemisphere. I’m totally dysfunctional and wiped out.
It’s so hard to get of bed in the morning.

Thank you Sharon for your explanations….You are calming my soul a bit. I was born with learning disability and with Kundalini rising…now I seizure very often…I’ve read it’s a good thing that my brain is being rewired, is this true? Any input would be great. Gratitude.

I have found that kundalini difficulties come from resistance in the individual, that the energy goes from benign but strong to benevolent by how one responds.

My greatest clearing of blocks and karmic material has always been by facilitating greater flow, not less. Acupuncture and Reiki as well as Chi Gong have all been extremely helpful when I have listened to the guidance this intelligent energy has provided me over the years. Eventually, as blocks are cleared, the energy becomes smoother. So yes to years of this energy being strong because we undo lifetimes of brokenness in one powerful swoop.

All along, for me, the contentment comes when I learn to accommodate the energy inside with utmost grace and peace. It will show you how to be this way, but it means following it’s unbending way, which is to find balance and utmost compassion for all directions, views, and ways, for these contain the seed of other’s own becoming.

As for sexual energy…abstain, don’t abstain, I have found extremely insightful things either way. The energy shows me the blocks through body pain and tension. I follow along and open channels of awareness and kundalini floods in and heals. Si far, I am just learning how to be an open vessel that does not inhibit it’s flow. Blocks can do that, the will can too. Easy or hard; your choice.

Another thing I found greatly helpful is hanging upside down on a vertical table machine. The kundalini may feel stuck or the lower discs of the spine that are often compressed are loosened and kundalini must flow better because when I do that I feel great for a couple days afterward.

Avoiding masturbation or ejaculation helps immensely. It can lead to a very calm and controlled mind and system. And the opposite if you don’t, it can overwork the system to a great extent.

I am a bodyworker and healing practitioner, and I currently have a client who is still going through the kundalini process for two years! Since meeting me about a month ago, she has been unsuccessful in calming down, and get tremendous headaches etc. I have managed to help her ground tremendously via craniosacral therapy an energy grounding. I myself have been through a similar but much more short-lived kundalini awakening. There has been slow improvement. Thank you for the article, especially the last point. As that last one (relaxation) has been fundamental in helping the energy flow to where it needs to go. However, is there any more info or other people in the field that I can converse with? I feel that two years in such an intense state seems to be unusual (but then what is unusual when it comes to such a powerful force?).

The sudden and unusual exp related to Kundalini started around late 2010 when out of sudden I started feeling pressure on third eye followed by hypothyroid and depression. This condition stayed for almost two years. Because of thyroid imbalance and depression, I left many jobs and went through a hell lot of trauma. My sexual desires multiplied during the period. This cycle ended in Jan 2012, when I started reading a book written by OSHO and used a meditation technique mentioned in the book. after a while i felt like a bubble kind of thing is moving upwards in the spinal area, the movement was very slow and i felt so intense pleasure that i never imagined can be experienced. From the next day my depression vanished and i felt so peaceful, divine. A kind of mystical silence surrounded me. Many times I felt like I am watching myself as a separate entity. Many times during meditation, i felt like blowing out of body. I started meditating for longer period, and reaching to a state of Samadhi. I could see the tingling white electrifying energy when eyes closed. The pressure on the third eye was constant. Even till date it is there. I left all addictions. I felt like I have found the aim of my life which was missing and was the reason of my restlessness.

Gradually I found that the energy was getting blocked and it was not able to flow freely, especially it was getting blocked little below the navel area. There was a constant pressure on the third eye, soon i felt that i am losing weight and getting depressed and anxious.

I contacted one of the most renowned spiritual org under a very famous guru and started their traditional yogic practices focused on aligning physical and energy body. I started feeling more aware and balanced, but the blocking of energies were still troubling me. I completed all the programmes offered by the org within one year. I attended the last level in feb 2014 where the Guru used his energies on the participants for one week to break major karmas and also aligning physical and energy bodies so that we can be initiated into higher level of consciousness.

After coming back from the programme, I felt that the flow of kundalini was very intense, while going upward it was pulling the whole abdomen area upward with choked feeling in neck. After two weeks suddenly following problems occurred:

    1) Very intense energy flow
    2) Sudden pressure at manipurka and self started kapal bharti
    3) Shouts and screams
    4) Body taking strange postures and asans
    5) self-started pranayam
    6) During energy upward movement, body rotating in circular motion
    7) Sometimes reverse flow of kundalini where kundalini started flowing out of mooladhar and legs
    8) Emotional traumas and off moods

I realised that may be now the internal path has been clear and kundalni activation took place in full force. I immediately stopped all my spiritual practices and on the advice of ashram and many other people and after reading the article on this website i started taking following steps and felt much better and relaxed:

    1) Grounding the excess energy by sitting on the grass or mud and imagining that energy is going down from legs into earth. This helped a lot and brought immediate relaxation.
    2) Physical exercise and heavy weight lifting
    3) Heavy meals
    4) Two time bath with salt

Now i am feeling more balanced. I am feeling like a layer has been removed and i can see every color and everything with so much clarity that i am amazed. It is like a light is constant on inside my head. Many times it happed that if a phone call is about to come, or a person is about to say anything or anything is going to happen, it came into my mind 5 minutes before the actual happening. I dont know what else is about to come.

I feel that there is no particular set of remedies in case of kundalini syndrome and different steps behave differently to people. the need is to look out with awareness. I think giving time to energy to do its session and afterwards grounding it is equally important. Strict schedule of sleep, diet and exercise help a alot. Book on Kundalini by Swami Satyanand saraswati is very helpful and scientific and clears many doubts. He has said that if kundalini has been prematurely activated, meditation is now not much of help, the need is to purify the system so that energies can flow to higher chakras.

The most imp thing I feel is Patience and courage, there is no need to panic, when we move towards higher dimensions, problems and suffering do comes, need is to watch it and try to balance it and not getting indulged in it.

I would also like to congratulate the writer of this website Mr Anmol for putting so much beneficial information in a simple and nice manner

This is great advice – particularly steps 1 and 6. I also like to do a grounding exercise if I can’t get out into nature. It’s just a simple visualization that can really keep you connected.

Basically you visualize your energy moving down through the earth, the rock bed, the volcanic rock, deep until you come to a dark cave of pure untouched water, see yourself in the water cleansing your aura and body. Then go further down into the fiery core and visualize all of the negativity being burned off in molten lava and then come back up into the water cave etc. until you are back up and nicely centered in your body.

Pranic psychotherapy is a powerful energy healing technique that is very useful in clearing blockages on a emotional and mental level . Pranic healing in general is a wonderful complement to spiritual practice …it empowers the practitioner to address blockages on physical ..emotional and mental levels that can obstruct kundalini flow…. more importantly according to my teacher grandmaster choa kok sui psychological purifications and character building has to be the basis of any spiritual practice.without the necessary purification kundalini energy can magnify these character flaws or blockages.from personal experience ..this is very true and the lesser the purification the greater the potential fall.god bless you on the path of light and fire.
