Illustrated Kundalini Yoga Pose #2

Eagle Pose

This second Kundalini Yoga pose in the Free Online Illustrated Kundalini Yoga Poses & Exercises E-Book is perhaps the most depicted pose of Kundalini Yoga, it is the Eagle Pose.  This pose is also part of many Kundalini Yoga kriyas, and is part of the famous Kundalini Yoga Morning Wake-up Series

This pose does not work on any specific chakra of the Kundalini Yoga Seven Chakra System per se, but, in fact works on building your aura or magnetic field instead.  Your aura is the total strength of your nervous system and it protects you from the unseen forces.  This aura is also responsible for you presence, charisma, magnetism and the impact you have on others.

Below, you will find an illustration of Kundalini Yoga Eagle pose, practice details and instructions for this fantastic Kundalini Yoga exercise.  Also, provided are the online Kundalini Yoga Kriyas which use this posture.

    Hi Sam,

Your Aura will remain strong, as long as your pranic body and nadis (channels that carry life force/pranaya/chi) remains clear and free flowing, and you nervous system remains strong.

    Hi Anmol,
Firstly what a brillant website. I recently came across it while researching Kundalini Yoga. I´m very knew to Yoga, although I have done some classes before but it was never a proper committment by myself. The question I have as a real beginner is in regards to the sequence of poses. For eg. if I am doing my first even kundalini yoga session at home what exactly do you suggest I do. I have started doing the Morning Wake-up series, however can you tell where to go from here. The other problem I have at the moment is that I´m living in Spain (I´m Australian) in a very small isolated town, with no Yoga classes at all. So I´m doing everything on my own in my house. I´d appreciate any advice you can offer.
    Regards,
    Jessica

    Dear Anmol,
Thank you for answering my question, and also telling me about the order of the poses… i found it difficult to keep balance trying to do both at once anyway…

while this doesn’t have anything to do with the eagle pose, it is more convenient to write one comment instead of two…
i came across your article for eye care and was wondering, since my sense of smell is very weak, if you could please suggest any poses or breathing techniques that would help me restore it
    thanks,
    Felix

    Hi Felix,

Glad you are enjoying and benefiting from the website.

I don’t suggest doing Eagle Pose with Butterfly Pose, as in each case the energy of the body is being directed to a particular location in order to obtain certain results.

Also, for butterfly, it is generally recommended to hold your toes/ankles which would prohibit you then from doing Eagle.

Just by the way, butterfly is a great way to start your yoga practice and eagle a great way to end it.

    Best,
    Anmol

    Dear Anmol,
Recently I have discovered your website and have taken much interest in it. Although I have come across many of the poses before on other websites, usually they only relate to the physical aspects of practicing yoga, but completely ignore the spiritual and psychological benefits. Firstly, I would like to thank you for putting in so much effort into maintaining such an informative website that is open to the public. And secondly, I have a question regarding this pose… you mention that this pose works in unison with the Breath of Fire… you also mention that the Butterfly Pose works well with the Breath of Fire… I was wondering, since the description only says to do this pose cross-legged, if it would be wise to practice it with the Butterfly Pose leg position instead?
    Thank you in advance,
    Felix O

    Hi Aparna,

Sorry to hear of the challenging times you are facing. The exercise above will certainly help, as will the following 2 exercises.

Kapalbhati pranayama will be great for you. Visualize the negativity and depression leaving your system as you practice it.

Also, Sohum Mantra Meditation is very good for alleviating depression. Visualize merging with your True Infinite Divine Nature as you practice it.

Let me know how it goes.

    All Good Wishes,
    Anmol

    Hey Ricardo,

Eagle pose only has good side affects :-). If anything, I say to beginner’s to not overdo the breath of fire if it makes them uncomfortable, besides that there is not too much more to watch out for with this exercise.

Yes, this pose does not require a counter pose and can be practiced by itself. If you do manage to do some more kundalini yoga exercises, then simply save Eagle pose for the end. I have also included Eagle pose by itself after doing hatha yoga stretches or simple KY exercises.

Glad you are finding it beneficial.

    Best,
    Anmol

Hi Anmol, I practiced this pose for about 2 minutes, and I felt really good. Right after I finished the excercise I felt extremely peaceful, this sensation lasted for the rest of the day. My mind was clear and focused, and the musles of my face and head were very relaxed.
I am wondering if I have to practice this excercise only when I am doing a whole set or series which include other excercises, or is it ok if I only do this excercise? I ask this because I am very busy right now and I don’t have enough time to go to kundalini yoga classes or practice other kriyas at home.
Are there any side effects for this pose?
