✍️ 6. My Experience with OM Chanting
My experience with OM Mantra is actually a little strange. I use OM mantra at the start of every class, and that of course is a great way to settle in and orient the mind and body for the work to come.
We also use OM Mantra at the start and end of any havan (prayer), and it works wonderfully there to bring focus and attention to the ceremony.
But it’s the esoteric experiences I have had with OM which are truly noteworthy. Here is one such experience that has burned itself into my memory due to its magnificence. I was deep in meditation and suddenly I found myself as an expansive galactic being – surrounded by the OM sound, which was reverberating in all directions all at once. It was like the sound of Genesis, or perhaps the sound of the Universal Engine humming. Needless to say, it was quite a remarkable experience, full of wonder, grandeur and awe.
So be ready for some eye-opening (Third Eye Opening 🙂) experiences as you enter the subtle world of Mantras and OM.
⚠️ 7. What Most People Get Wrong
Many people misunderstand the benefits of chanting OM because they approach it incorrectly.
They:
- try to force the sound
- chase a feeling
- expect a result
This creates tension.
The truth is:
OM works best when:
- the sound is relaxed
- awareness is open
- nothing is forced

Try this:
- Sit comfortably
- Take a slow breath in
- Chant OM gently:
- “A” → abdomen
- “U” → chest
- “M” → head

- Notice the silence afterward
