Best Yoga Exercises for Six Pack Abs

In this article, I am happy to present a video demonstration of the Core Abdominal Power Yoga Set, from the Online Kundalini Yoga Workouts E-Book. This will be the second video of our Free Online Yoga Video series.

This yoga set is excellent for toning, strengthening and developing washboard like abs, but that is really just a byproduct of the real purpose of this set.  This kundalini yoga workout is designed to build and refine your core energy and power.  The chakra (energy center) which is relentlessly targeted by this workout is the Third Chakra, also called the Manipura chakra or Navel Chakra.

Kundalini yoga recommends building up the Third Chakra first, when you start your yoga practice.  This is for the following two important reasons.  First, the Navel Chakra is responsible for your willpower and strength of character, which are essential attributes if you are to commit to and thus, benefit from a long term yoga practice.

Second, this region is the power house for the energy which runs your body, thus it needs to be in tip top shape so that you can live your life at your highest potential.  But, if you don’t really care about all that and just want ripped six pack abs, no worries they are delivered by this set as well :-D.

Here is how this yoga set challenges and develops the abdominal muscles.  The indicated exercises bring pressure to the abdominal muscles from multiple angles and directions, which helps target the entire abdominal region.  Thus, not only are the upper and lower abdominals toned (to give you the vaunted six pack), but also the obliques along the sides of the abdominals are strengthened.  This set contains some of the best yoga exercises for building strong, defined abs.

Summary of Benefits of Core Abdominal Yoga Workout:

  • Opens and balances the Navel Chakra, thus promoting willpower and strength of character.
  • Helps build ripped, washboard like abs.
  • Dramatically increases energy.
  • Excellent yoga set for the digestive system.
  • Builds balance and mental focus.
  • Opens up and promotes flexibility in the hips.
  • Helps trim the waistline.
  • Good for the endocrine, nervous and respiratory systems.

Core training is often overlooked in a workout, however it is probably one of the most important parts of the body to focus on. A strong core means you can exert more power through your weight lifting movements, which helps you build more muscle and burn more fat. Good video post.

I think that Yoga definitely has it’s place in obtaining a strong overall core through it’s positions and breathing techniques. That being said, let’s not overlook the extreme importance of a well balanced diet and cardiovascular exercise. Without these two components, you will be hard pressed in obtaining six-pack abs that are visible to the human eye, unless you are thin and carry no fat to begin with. My two cents…

    Hi Anmol!

Thanks for the answer (about doing breath of fire while practicing asanas for weight loss), here another questions:

It is ok to do breath of fire practicing the asanas, regardless if the asanas Im doing are not part of a kundalini yoga set?

And, Im about to going to a gym to get fit, but i adore doing yoga too, I was wondering if doing hatha yoga instead of gym exercises (like weight lifting or even pilates) will help me to get nice abs, pecs and legs? because i want to get long/lean but ripped muscles.

Hope you can help me with this, thanks again for the last answer and, please keep yoga growing with your great info and with your great site.

6 pack abs could continue to be a myth if you want to believe it to be but all it takes is a little determination and discipline. Reducing tummy fat displays washboard abs a little better. With some basic discipline and diet changes you could be showing off you six pack abs in weeks.

    Hey Jay,

Wait till we get to yoga for defined pecs:-D… point being of course, yoga is pretty comprehensive and covers all aspects of fitness, for all parts and systems of the body. But if there is one right place to start… its definitely abs.

Thanks for your comments and cheers to healthy living!

    Best,

Whoever thought that yoga and abs could be used in one sentence? I know I know… This is just the thought of someone who clearly has no idea what yoga is all about. But before the whole yoga trend burst, people generally regarded it as merely a meditation technique and not something that requires a lot of physical exertion. I suppose we’re all on the way to healthy living!
