Signs and Symptoms of The Kundailni Awakening Experience

The Kundalini Experience

Kundalini Awakening Signs

To help people identify that what they were feeling and experiencing were actually signs of Kundalini Awakening and not symptoms of a mental or medical condition, I created a list of Kundalini Awakening Symptoms for them to use as a reference.  These symptoms were from my own experience with Kundalini Rising, and were certainly not comprehensive.

Kundalini is a very mysterious process and its awakening and rising tends to always have some unique and personal aspects.  Of course there are many common signs, but if you read the hundreds of comments in that article thread, you will notice there are various different ways that people experience kundalini.   These varied experiences then gives us more insight into the nature and secrets of kundalini and how she works.

The Kundailni Awakening Experience

One good thing though with regard to Kundalini Syndrome, which is what the experience of Kundalini Awakening is often referred to as, is that the approach to dealing with the challenges such awakening brings is usually common.  Of course there are cases on the extreme end of the spectrum, which need medical intervention and/or psychotherapy, but the vast majority of cases can be handled individually by following the advise laid out in the following 2 articles…

7 Effective Tips for Dealing with Kundalini Syndrome

Kundalini Shakti Help and Advise

So as I alluded to above, the list of kundalini symptoms I enumerated is not necessarily a complete list, and today I want to share with you Don’s kundalini experience, which has a detailed account of what he went through with regard to kundalini.

I find his account very useful as it adds to the list of signs of kundalini awakening and also provides valuable advise and help for others who might be struggling with kundalini syndrome.  I want to thank Don for sharing his experience with us and if you have yourself experienced kundalni rising please do share your experiences with us in the comments section below.  I am sure others will benefit from your insights as well.

Don’s Kundalni Experience and Symptom List:

When I started to experience, what I later found out after intensive soul searching and some online research, to be Kundalini symptoms, I was, to put it quite bluntly, terrified.  The height of their intensity was in November, October, and December of 2010.  I awoke suddenly in the middle of the night to some intensely pleasurable vibrations of a sexual nature, when my wife was sound asleep next to me.  Since I knew it wasn’t coming from either of us, I was disturbed, putting it mildly.  The next few months were followed by me not being able to sleep without the light on.  I felt very strong waves of unseen energy traveling from the soles of my feet toward my head. It was like being in a massage chair.  I had nightmares, and I couldn’t shake the feeling of being watched.

I went through some nights or days when I was home alone with some intense kriyas.  That’s what terrified me more than anything at the time. I had no control of what was happening, and I didn’t yet understand why.  My spine felt like it was elongating. I would go through periods of spontaneous stretching.  I was also experiencing some painful aches in my left side, just under my ribcage, which my doctor had no medical explanation for, after she put her stethoscope to where the pain was.  That physical pain only lasted a few months,
thankfully.  I went through some horrible neck and back pain for those few months, too.  At times, I couldn’t even stand up straight.

Here’s a list of other symptoms I was experiencing at the time:

1. Spontaneous popping sounds coming from my nose
.

2. Itchy crawly sensations on my left leg, between my eyebrows, cheeks, and my neck.

3. What felt like tremendous heat around my left leg and foot. I went through an agonizing forklift injury to my left foot in 2003 that was followed by a long bout of depression, over not being able to support my family the way I was used to, so that needed tremendous healing, and it has in more ways than one today. I didn’t lose my foot, but the crushing injury shattered several bones in my heel, severing my ligaments, and liquifying the soft tissues inside my foot. I shouldn’t be able to run on it today, but I can sprint today from home plate to first base. That shouldn’t be possible, considering the severity of the injury.

4. Intense ringing in my ears
.

5. Spontaneous emotional trauma and anxiety (sudden memories cropping up of past trauma of sex abuse my brother and I endured at a daycare in the early seventies)

6. Tachycardia (rapid heart rate of 100 beats a minute or more)
.

7. Severe headaches
.

8. Seeing black blobs of color with my eyes closed that were beyond dark (fears that needed to be released that manifested into dark entities that I could feel and sense)

9. Unexplained twitches unrelated to anything like Parkinson’s disease
.

10. Being jerked awake at times, almost like my arm was suddenly pulled out of socket.

11. Severe lack of sleep.

12. Considered checking into a mental hospital, and so glad I didn’t
.

13. Considered an exorcism.

14. Severe lack of concentration, like I couldn’t retain any new information.

15. What felt like electrical sparks around my head and in between my eyebrows.

16. Spontaneous orgasms that would go on for hours when I was alone with no stimulation or visual. (Reminded me of puberty, without a doubt, although I was now 40)

17. Nocturnal emissions (wet dreams).

18. Spontaneous yoga positions, although I’d never taken yoga (something I also experienced often around the age of 10-15).

The list goes on, believe me, but these were the most intense.

Then, an amazing thing happened at about 3 in the morning. I had been lying in bed terrified, when I was suddenly out of my body up near the ceiling in the corner of my bedroom. I looked down to see an intensely beautiful being rubbing my forehead, comforting me. I saw what I can only describe as her wings, stretched down past my toes. My entire bedroom was lit up in the most amazing blue light I can even imagine. In an instant, I was next to my kids’ room, where the light was a beautiful shade of orange. Then, I was in the living room, gazing down at my daughter as she was bathed by a brilliant white light, where she had fallen asleep. Then, I ended up in the kitchen to see an amazing shade of green throughout that space. Before I knew it, I was back in my body.

From that moment on, I have been in awe. I released my fears. I truly did experience a “dark night of the soul.”  If you’re going through anything like that, and you’re scared, just release your fear. Fill your heart and thoughts with love.  Love vibrates at a very high frequency.

In the coming months, I started to sleep soundly all night long. I started to see auras with the naked eye, as I do today quite clearly. My aura is the most amazing neon green I can imagine, and lately I’ve been seeing my aura turn more blue, and it’s getting stronger and bigger all the time. I’m in school right now, working on medical assisting classes, and I plan on using that as a stepping stone to move into nursing.

There is a spiritual awakening going on. I can feel it every moment.  Trust your heart.  Trust your intuition. Love yourself as you deserve to be loved, so that you can share that with others.

Lately, I’ve been able to see brilliant shades of purple, blue, and green with my eyes closed, and especially during and shortly after meditation.  I see these with the naked eye just as easily.  The universe all around us is teeming with life.  I trust in that with every ounce of my intuition. It’s something that I’ve always had a gut feeling about. It’s nice to know it’s true.

Namaste and God bless you always! – Don Winslow

Kundalini Experience Signs and Symptoms Summary:

Don’s experience is that of a full blown kundalini awakening.   If you are experiencing kundalini activating, you may also be experiencing some of these symptoms.

What I want to especially highlight here is the importance of Trust.  If you are going through something like this, you have to simply trust the process.  This will help reduce the anxiety, stress and fear that accompanies such a process, which will also help reduce some of the symptoms that are actually not related to kundalini rising, but related to stress and anxiety.  I know this can be very hard to do, but the more you can trust kundalini, the better you will be able to handle her.

Some of the interesting symptoms that Don experienced that are often reported are those of spontaneous yoga poses, itchy creepy crawly, intense pressure in the forehead and spontaneously organisms.  If you are also experiencing any symptoms of kundalini awakening, feel free to share them with us in the comments sections below.

What is Diwali Really – True Meaning of the Festival of Lights

True Meaning of Diwali

What Dewali Is

Today is Diwali and along with wishing each and every one of you a very Happy and Healthy Diwali, I also want to share some of my thoughts on what is the esoteric meaning behind this glorious occasion.

For those who don’t know what Diwali is, it is the day when Lord Rama returned to his kingdom Ayodhya after 14 in exile and after defeating the demon king Ravana.  It is celebrated with a great deal of enthusiasm in India and the reason it’s also called the Festival of Lights, is that on this day diyas (small clay lamps) are lit in abundance to greet the return of Rama.

True Meaning of the Festival

This great story of Rama and Ravana is called the Ramayana.  Along with the Mahabharata, which hosts the Bhagavad Gita and Teachings of Sri Krishna, this is the other great epic tale of the Indian culture.  When I was young, my favorite book and prized possession was a copy of the Ramayana.  Of course the primary reason for this being my favorite book was due to the great tales of valor and heroism by Rama and his brother Lakshman, but the other reason was because it had 10 to 15 pages of illustrations, and these pictures were so extraordinarily beautiful that I would never tire of looking at them.

Meaning of Ramayana from Kundalini Yoga:

Some of you might be aware of that there is an esoteric meaning for the Ramanyana and that the great story is a means by which to teach the secret of Kundalini Yoga  to others.  This esoteric meaning is as follows:

In the Ramayana, the King of Lanka, Ravana kidnaps Rama’s wife Sita.  This leads to a great war in which Rama and his brother Lakshman, with the help of Hanuman defeat Ravana and free Sita from Lanka.

The way this is is interpreted from a Kundalini Yoga perspective is this.

Rama is the soul.

Lakshman is concentration.

Sita is Kundalini Shakti

Ravana is Ego

Hanuman is Prana

Lanka is the Root Chakra

So from the above the true meaning of the Ramayana is that the Soul (Rama) needs to use Lakshman (Concentration) to harness the power of Prana (Hanuman) in order to defeat the ego (Ravana) and liberate Kundalini Shakti (Sita) from the Root Chakra (Lanka).

So this is esoteric meaning of the Ramayana, but I have some input here on why when this all happens it ought to be called Diwali or the Festival of Lights.

What Is Diwali Truly – The Festival of Lights:

Often times the great masters would simply call light as God.  They just said light is God.  It is my experience that often enlightenment experiences and the very journey to Self Realization is filled with many astonishing experiences with light.  Thus, for me the real meaning of Diwali, or The Festival of Lights, is the experience of inner light that takes place as we encounter and come closer to realizing our true nature – Rama.

Perhaps Diwali can be though of as the day of ultimate illumination when one sees completely the false nature of the ego and dualistic reality.  It is the day of enlightenment, such as that for Lord Mahavira on Diwali.

Below are some examples of the inner Diwali that takes place on your journey back to the Self.

Inner Festival of Lights:

1. Intense White Light:

In the article, Kundalini Awakening Symptoms, I described this experience of pure, white light that is extraordinarily beautiful that one spontaneously encounters within.  This light can be so bright, that one feels one would be blinded if one looked at it directly, but of course it is inner light and can be enjoyed and gazed at without harm.  Now that is one powerful diya :-).

In the 500 plus comments the above article received, you will find many more examples of yogis enjoying inner Diwali.

2. Incredible Cosmic Formations:

Diwali typically is celebrated with lots of fireworks, but no firework show compares to the incredible celestial formations which you may be given a tour of on this journey to enlightenment.  For my experience of such an astonishing trip, you can read the article: Inducing Altered States of Consciousness.

3. Pure Colors and Light:

Recently, late in the night, I had the experience of light in a different way than above.  I experiences colors that were so incredible pure, so perfect and so beautiful that they left one incredulous and breathless.  Encountering beauty of this magnitude always brings with it such joy, that is it hard to express the elation in words.

What is Diwali for You?

So that was my latest celebration of Diwali :-) and tonight I will celebrate Diwali with my wife and 2 boys, and let me tell you, in no way is that any less special that all the inner celebrations I have had.  If you have experiences of light and joy which you would like to share with us, please do so in the comments section below.  If you have your own or another interpretation of What is Diwali, we would love to hear about that as well.

So again, wishing you all a wonderful Diwali and may your lives be filled peace, happiness, love and light.

Best Core Yoga Pose Video

Core Yoga Exercise

Yoga for Core Power

A Kundalini Yoga class with my teacher, Ravi Singh, was almost never complete unless we had done our core power yoga exercises.  Over the course of my training I realized the many benefits of developing this center and later, once I began teaching yoga myself, I too ensured to include some abdominal exercises in every class.

The physical and aesthetic benefits of developing your core power and abs is relatively obvious.  You get more energy, develop a flat, toned stomach and having a strong core helps you avoid injuries as well as assists you with other yoga poses.  But there is another more subtle reason for focusing on your core strengthen, especially early in your practice, and that is because working on this area gives you great willpower.  It builds your character.  This inner strength then helps you commit to a steady, long-term yoga and meditation practice, from which then all the other marvelous benefits of yoga are realized.

Core Yoga Pose

The importance of character should not be underestimated in life.  As many of us undoubtedly know, life will constantly challenge us and sometimes knock us down.  From these positions, we have to rise again to meet the challenge of the moment, and for this you will need to have resolve and tenacity.  A strong core, lends itself to having such determination.  So not just does it help you walk the path, but in the event you are dislodged from the path by the storms of life, it helps you get back on it.

From a chakra point of view, working on the core is equivalent to working on your Navel Chakra or Manipura Chakra.  You can read more about the chakra model and understand core power yoga exercises from this point of view by visiting the following articles:

Seven Chakra Kundalini Yoga Model
How to Analyze and Balance Your Chakras

Best Core Yoga Pose:

So now that we know understand the importance of developing our core strength and core power, which yoga exercise should we start with to get that going?  And the answer to that question, from Kundalini Yoga, is Yoga Stretch Pose.  This pose is ideal for beginning to develop your abdominal region and balancing your Navel Chakra.  It works fast, it is simple to do, it has good modifications for beginners and is very effective.

I previously detailed this exercise in the article, Kundalini Yoga Stretch Pose for Yoga Abdominal Power, and you read that article for more details on this excellent yoga pose.

In this article today I will provide a video for Stretch Pose, so if you have neglected to learn this key exercise, here is your chance once again to do so :-).  I assure you, you will not regret incorporating Stretch Pose into your routine and your body will love you for it.

Given how good Stretch Pose, it should be no surprise that it is part of many yoga routines here on Mastery of Meditation and Yoga.  In particular it is the heart and soul of the Yoga Ab Exercises and Workout to Shape Stomach set, which you can use if you are really looking to get your stomach and abs in shape in a hurry.

This video, like the other yoga exercises I am now creating videos for, will become part of our ongoing Free Yoga Exercise Videos series.

Modifications to Stretch Pose:

As I mentioned above, there are some easy modifications for Stretch Pose, and these modifications will work just as well for developing your core as the full version.  They are just ways to simplify the exercise to match your level, so feel free to use them as you develop your capacity.  The most common modifications are to do one leg at a time, or to do the exercise with knees bent.

For Yoga and Meditation Certification Students:

For students enrolled in the Online Yoga Teacher’s Training and Certification Program and Online Meditation Certification Program, this yoga pose is part of both the trainings.  In the Yoga Training Manual it is chapter 24, and in the Meditation Training Manual, it is part of the Basic Yoga Poses Set, which is chapter 19.

As you can see, my teacher ensured we did core yoga work in each class, I have done the same and I suggest you continue the tradition.  The students really appreciate doing these exercises and the benefits to them are enormous.

Core Power Yoga Stretch Pose Video Contents:

  • The video gives a full demonstration of Stretch Pose and it’s modified version as well.
  • It teaches the correct hand positions to help take pressure off the lower back when doing this exercise.
  • It discusses the core and abdominal benefits of this pose, along with other details about the technique.
  • Please note if you have trouble viewing the video from here, I have provided the YouTube link as well which you can use.

How to Make Spiritual Friends

By

Nigel Coates

I don’t belong to a single religion or faith – but I do believe in God. My God.

I am walking briskly down my own Spiritual Path … which just happens to pass right by the smorgasbord buffet of all beliefs and possibilities.

I’m guilty of picking and choosing the things that resonate with me and leaving the rest – but I’m OK with that.

I don’t have a banner to stand under, like the Christians, Buddhists, Muslims, Hindus or Taoists do, but I do know that there are many other people just like me.

It is in our nature to ask questions and to explore the many different things that grab our interest.

What I truly believe in … continually changes as I learn. I am happily a work in progress.

No one can tell me what is right or wrong – but their opinions can provide fuel for my thoughts.

No one can hand me a single book (like the Bible or Koran) and tell me that every word in it is truth. I know they both contain many words of wisdom, but when I question their ideas I draw an understanding that is relevant to me.

But when I meet people who question my practice, my best explanation is to say that “I’m spiritual, not religious”. But that’s still a broad brush to paint myself with.

So if you can relate to any of the above – Do you ever feel lonely or isolated? Do you ever question exactly to where, or to whom do you belong?

Let me introduce you to a simple test I have been working on to help me find like-minded souls.

Smile Test to Find Like Minded Souls:

It’s called the Smile Test. (It’s not perfect, but it’s a start.)

Step 1. Walk down the street and smile at a stranger.

Step 2. Pay particular attention to whether they smile back. (If they do, move to step 3)

Step 3. Look them in the eyes and say the secret code-word … “Hello”.

Step 4. I’m still working on the exact details of this step, but it involves ad-libbing, being confident in your worth, and enjoying yourself.

I have been exploring this practice, as I have realized that the ‘feeling of belonging’ holds hands with the ‘feeling of connection’. It can be with 100 people in church, chanting in a small meditation circle, with a man waiting for the bus, or with a child at a birthday party.

Having an awareness and appreciation of your meaningful connections extends your spiritual family – and forms your supportive clan.

It all seems so simple, right? But there is a catch: The value of the connection.

I’ve dusted of the little book of ‘Mom Sayings’ to help me out.

Spiritual Inspirational Quotes:

Talk is cheap.

There is a sale on in my lunch-room at work where you can pick up an ear-full of negativity for next to nothing … (Apart from the occasional knife in the back). It’s important to note that not all bargains are good investments!

Actions speak louder than words.

Love is a verb. It’s a ‘doing’ word. Beware of those who sing the carols of Angels and keep time by tapping their pitch-fork. People who are bullies or energy vampires should be avoided. Don’t listen so much to what people say … Look for what they do and how that makes you feel.

And finally, Practice what you preach.

Meditate to create an awareness of your true beliefs – really listen to the words that pass your lips – and carefully observe how you are making your way along your own spiritual path. Are all three elements in alignment?

No one is perfect, but that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t try! (Just remember to celebrate all that you achieve, instead of berating yourself for the times you fall short).

OK, one more for you … If you’re going to talk the talk, you’ve got to walk the walk.

Forming a Spiritual Community:

When you are true to yourself – your energy will attract what you need. (Not always what you ‘want’ – but that’s a different topic)

When you connect with people on your path whom you respect – know that they are your spiritual brothers and sisters.

They form the clan of like-minded individuals all around the world who work in the light, celebrate goodness, and … smile at strangers.

Our unifying voice might not be as loud as the well-established religions, but when you listen with your heart you can hear us loud and clear.

Nigel Coates is the moderator of Explore Meditation, a spiritual-growth blog offering guided meditations and insights to open your awareness and help you stand fully in your own power and glory.

The Yoga of Meditation | Sri Krishna Teachings

What is the Yoga of Meditation

True Purpose of Yoga and Meditation

Today let us explore deep into what yoga is and specifically, what is the Yoga of Meditation.  This term, the Yoga of Meditation, is actually from the teachings of Sri Krishna from the Bhagavad Gita, and below I will provide several excerpts that reveal what is the meaning and true purpose of this type of yoga.

Yoga of Meditation, is speaking towards the mental and meditative aspects of yoga and how to go about practicing this highest yoga to achieve the highest Truth.

For those unfamiliar with the Bhagavad Gita, these are the essential teaching of Sri Krishna, that were presented to Arjuna to help him understand the real meaning and purpose of life and yoga.  The term Atman, used below, means eternal soul, and from the point of view of practice can be thought of as Pure Being or the Witnessing Consciousness.  Bhrahman, meaning the Supreme Divinity or God.

Sri Krishna Teachings

Book: Bhagavad Gita

Translated By: Swami Prabhavananda and Christopher Isherwood

Chapter:  The Yoga of Meditation (Pages 39-46)

Krishna Explains who is a Yogi and what the Yoga of Meditation is in the following excerpts:

He who does the task
Dictated by duty,
Caring nothing
For fruit of the action,
He is a Yogi.

If a yogi has perfect control over his mind, and struggles continually in this way to unite himself with Brahman, he will come at last to the crowning peace of Nirvana, the peace that is in me.

Yoga is not for the man who overeats, or for him who fasts excessively.  It is not for him who sleeps too much, or for the keeper of exaggerated vigils.  Let a man be moderate in his eating and his recreation, moderately active, moderate in sleep and in wakefulness.  He will find that yoga takes away all his unhappiness.

When can a man be said to have achieved union with Brahman?  When his mind is under perfect control and freed from all desires, so that he becomes absorbed in the Atman, and nothing else.  “The light of a lamp does not flicker in a windless place”: that is the simile which describes a yogi of one-pointed mind, who meditates upon the Atman.  When, through the practice of yoga, the mind ceases its restless movements, and becomes still, he realizes the Atman.  It satisfies him entirely.  Then he knows that infinite happiness which can be realized the the purified heart but is beyond the grasp of the senses.  He stands firm in this realization.  Because of it, he can never again wander from the innermost truth of his being.

Now that he holds it
He knows this treasure
Above all others:
Faith so certain
Shall never be shaken
By heaviest sorrow.

To achieve this certainly is to know the real meaning of the word yoga.  It is the breaking of contact with pain.  You must practice this yoga resolutely, without losing heart.  Renounce all your desires, forever.  They spring from willfulness.  Use your discrimination to restrain the whole pack of the scattering senses.

Patiently, little by little, a man must free himself from all mental distractions, with the aid of the intelligent will.  He must fix his mind upon the Atman, and never think of anything else.  No matter where the restless and unquiet mind wanders, it must be drawn back and made to submit to the Atman only.

Utterly quiet,
Made clean of passion,
The mind of the yogi
Knows that Brahman,
His bliss is the highest.

He later says, in response to Arjuna’s assertion that the mind is impossible to tame.

Yes, Arjuna, the mind is restless, no doubt, and hard to subdue.  But it can be brought under control by constant practice, and by the exercise of dispassion.  Certainly, if a man has no control of his ego, he with find this yoga difficult to master,  But a self-controlled man can master it, if he struggles hard, and uses the right means.

Yoga of Meditation Analysis:

Here are the highlights from these teachings:

1. You Need Abiding Passion:

If there is one prerequisite for attaining enlightenment it is not just fleeting passion for Truth and meditation, but life-long passion.  It is this life-long passion which will carry you to the final station.  So as Krishna says above, don’t lose heart and make your motto to simply Keep Going!

2. The Purpose of the Yoga of Meditation is to Silence the Mind:

This is the true purpose of the Yoga of Meditation.  To still the minds of thoughts so that the Atman or Infinite aspect of yourself can reveal itself.  As long as the mind remains occupied there is no space for this inner light to shine through.  You can constantly busy with the demands of the ego, and you will not able to establish yourself in the Witness Consciousness or Pure Being.  So practice meditation and constant awareness so that the mind can quiet down and you can realize your true divine nature.

3. Yoga of Meditation is the Practice of Dispassion:

The way out of suffering is to distance yourself from results and focus on just what needs to be done in the moment.  In fact, this is how Krishna describes a true Yogi.  One who does what needs to be done and then leaves the results to God.  Just do what is required, forget the rest.

You want to reach the stage where you can say, “I don’t mind what happens.”  This is the great secret of the enlightened masters, they simply don’t mind what happens, they are always at ease with everything.

True Inspirational Stories of God Realization

Real Inspiring Stories

Experiences of God Realization

Previously I provided real life testimonials from readers who were practicing the techniques on the website and making progress towards health, happiness and God Realization, but in this series I will provide some truly inspirational stories of some mind blowing experience readers have written to me about.

One of the great blessings and privileges of running a large spiritual blog is that I get to befriend some truly remarkable people, whose experiences and life stories are not just astonishing, but also incredibly inspiring and enlightening.  With their permission I am honored to share with you the great insights they have acquired and I hope you are as equally encouraged by these testimonials as I am.

Real Inspiring Stories

One of the key challenges in spiritual progress, is to keep going and see it through to the very end, and to help us stay on the path, such inspiring people and inspiring stories are very helpful.  All I can say after reading so many incredible tales is that life is a great mystery, and that our self-indulgent, endlessly busy mind only sees a very small fraction of the great wonder that this Universe holds.  I can also say that the more I realize, the more I am awed by the unfathomable power and grace of God.

The experience described below is from just such a friend I have made through the blog, who thankfully takes the time out to share with me some of the sights and sounds of his spiritual journey.

How special is he?  He will say he is not special, only God is.  How do I know this?  When I asked him if I should credit him with the quote, his reply was the following:

There is no need to use my name for the article because God deserves all the credit.  He is all and He is in all, nothing is separate from Him.

Not even a single breath belongs to us, we are alive and the whole creation is running due to His grace.

But sadly most of us have forgotten Him because we are so busy with our little “I”.

Forget his story about God Realization, that reply in itself is inspirational .  In any case, below you find a description of some true spiritual experiences that my friend has generously shared with us.  His real life story is full of great insights and below the excerpt, I highlight some of them in the summary section.

My friend writes:

Since my spiritual practice I have progressed well and wanted to share with you one of my spiritual experiences during meditation.  I hear the sound “OM” coming from my heart chakra, sometimes during and after meditation I feel tremendous happiness without any reason and I am in that blissful state for hours or days.

During meditation I become thoughtless.  There is no thoughts, no mind, no physical body and there is me who is just an awareness watching the whole process.  I see that I am not the body and mind, and that my own personality is just a fake illusion of mind and ego.

One of the most interesting experiences I had was that one day during meditation first I started to see some white and golden lights in my forehead.  After that the lights where everywhere.  Then a very beautiful and radiant lady appeared before me and her presence was very peaceful.

She looked like an Indian deity but I could not recognize her then she chanted some mantras and at that moment my state of consciousness was pushed to a very high state.  Its difficult for me to explain in words that high state of consciousness, only through experience one can understand it.

When I was in that high state of consciousness I could see the whole universe as me.  I could feel that the whole universe and every living being is part of me.  I was every animals, insects, mountain, plant, water, sea etc.  Practically I was part of everything.

During that high state of consciousness I realized that I am immortal.  I am not the body or mind, I am Atma all transcending eternal being.

This experience has changed and taught me many things.  Now I have a lot of respect for every living being and there is no fear of death.

In this world, people run after their desires like money, name, fame etc.  And the list of their desires is endless.  Even if a person achieves their material goals, after a little time he becomes unhappy like before and wants more and more.

People don’t realize that desires will only lead to more suffering and unhappiness.

We all know that when we come and go from this transitory world we never take with us the material things, name, fame etc.  So why are we running behind all these things which will perish with time.  The root cause of all this is our desires and attachments, which are created by our own mind.

It is very true that the mind creates bondage and also, the mind leads one to true liberation.  But for that one has to bring the mind under control with arduous spiritual practice and the most important thing is the purest longing to realize God.  Only then God will reveal himself to that soul.

We should all give thanks to God for giving us the greatest gift of life because now we are born like human beings.  Who knows how many incarnations we have to go through before taking birth as a human being and so we should use this life very wisely.

I bow to the lotus feet Lord for bestowing his grace upon me.

Om Namah Shivaya

True Inspirational Story Highlights:

I don’t know what not to highlight from the above note .  It is so packed with wisdom and inspiration that it is hard to pick and choose.  But, in any case, here are some points from the experiences that are worth reiterating.

1. Witnessing Consciousness:

Develop your witnessing consciousness, be constantly Mindful.  Learn to simply be a witness to all that is taking place.  I have written about this many times, most recently in the article Shri Ramana Maharishi Teachings on Meditation.  In my view, this is the most important spiritual practice of all.

2. Live in Peace and with Compassion:

This is something you can aspire to, regardless of whether you have mind blowing enlightenment experiences or not.  Respect all of life and please stop fighting with each other.  This whole world is yours.  It is a integral part of you.  It is you.

The following 3 article delve into this more deeply.  But for starters, live in peace.

3. God Realization – Self Realization:

The greatest blessing one can have is an abiding passion for the Truth or God.  If you have this, you have all you need to fulfill your purpose on Earth.

More on the importance of this passion in the following article:

Silent Mind Meditation Program – Passion

4. Suffering:

As my friend points out clearly above, the root cause of all suffering is desire and attachments, and there are no end to desires.  So evaluate how you wish to spend your energy and time in this precious life God has blessed you with.

5. Inspiration:

The reason I have started this series is to help inspire you and keep your passion for God Realization burning bright.  I hope you find it motivating and stay tuned for more true stories from readers just like you.

The Profound Practice of Stillness

Being Still

THE PRACTICE OF STILLNESS

By

Kristi Nimmo

Stillness of body.  This can be practiced.  Let us say that you sit for your meditation and you are fidgeting, you are moving around.  We know that this is not stillness. This is an agitation, perhaps an anxiety, maybe a resistance to finding that place within you of peace.

And one might say, “Well, I’ll come back to this later when I feel more rested, when I have less anxiety and less movement in my body, then I’ll come back to this.”  How do we not give up when we encounter resistance to still body? By becoming still.

How does one become still in body when we sit for meditation, especially if agitated?  Some people suggest upright posture.  Perhaps you are firmly rooted in a yogic position. But you can just as easily be seated in a chair.  At this point, you do want some comfort.  If your body is aching and straining that is where your focus will be.  So find a position that is easy to sit, easy to stand.  It may help to take a few, deep breaths. Just give yourself up to stillness. Trust that stillness is inseparable from you. If this is difficult for you, then find some place in your body that is still.  Perhaps, your big toe is not moving, maybe your ear does not move, your nose.  Put your attention there.  On your ear, the stillness of the physical form of the ear. Just the feeling of the stillness of the ear, no visualizations, no thoughts about it, just feeling it.

Then perhaps you’ll find some other place in your body that is still.  Maybe it is your ankle. Become still with the stillness.  Become unmoving, gradually, or, all at once. And just be with the stillness.  It may take practice.  But it is a good practice, this stillness of the physical form, the sensing of it, becoming familiar with it, as well as the stillness of thought and the body of energy.

A person might say, “This is easy to do when I’m home alone, but I can’t do this anywhere else. There’s all this noise around me, and every time I sit to meditate here comes the mower of one of my neighbors, and all I do is hear the mowing.”  This is an opportunity for you to practice bringing your attention from outside to within.  To symbolize this, to feel it, you can place your palm to that which your mind is calling a distraction, and then turn the palm towards yourself, to you who is distracted. And feel the stillness in your hand, the stillness being brought back into you: the stillness of your self, your inner self.  You may think of a stone in a field.

Stones are still.  The earth may tremble when a heavy vehicle goes over it. There’s a pebble, and the pebble moves ever so slightly, a tremble goes on around it, causing the pebble to appear to be in an excited state.  The vehicle is far away now, and the tremble ceases and the stone appears again as before: still, silent. Its outward appearance is of its inner.  But all along it was still.

A stone is still in your hand. Even if you toss a stone into the air and you see the stone go up and fall, it is yet still.  So even if the mower arrives, the telephone rings, you practice stillness.

Practice stillness as the unmoving body. And begin to recognize and feel the stillness, even if you should shift the body slightly. The stillness remains.  So we are turning our attention to the stillness. And if we sense agitation it helps us to turn our attention to this essence of stillness.

If you are agitated and you do not have trust in the stillness being inseparable from you, then go again to the physical form.  Put your attention on a part of you that is not moving, one small part—an ear, a finger–and focus on the stillness until you are able to bring your attention to stillness more so than agitation, so that you are being the stillness, not the agitation.  It is a practice.

With practice, eventually, we do not have to be motionless in body in order to feel the peaceful clarity of stillness.

When we sit still or stand still in meditation, our blood continues its flow, our breath continues its flow. Being physically still is not the cessation of movement. The sensations of stillness arouse in us clear knowing when there is something in us resisting unbound movement, so sense your agitation from the inner space of stillness and see whether or not your agitation weakens or succumbs.

Free Downloadable Meditation Music for Relaxation

Free Meditation Music

Relaxation Meditation Music

Meditation music can serve many different purposes, such as relaxation, enjoyment, healing, chakra activation, etc., but really good meditation music is the type that ultimately points you towards Infinity.  In fact, that is the mark of any really great art.  That it reminds you of Infinity and moves you that direction.  It inspires you to reach towards your Highest Nature.

Coming soon on Mastery of Meditation and Yoga is going to be another full section which will be devoted to meditation music.  This section will be a collection of downloadable meditation music MP3s and Videos and will of course be completely free, just like the other e-books, galleries and libraries we host here.  I am quite excited with this new dimension for the website, as I am a huge fan of good meditation music and am greatly inspired by it.

Relaxation Meditation Music

To kick off the Free Meditation Music Downloads section I am going to provide you with a really inspiration track today, which is not just good for relaxation, but is also great for inspiring you to reach for the Divine.  It was created by a great new friend I made this year, who is not just a highly charged spiritual person, but is also a terrific musical talent and artist, Shree Kamesh.  It is this combination, of spiritual orientation combined with musical genius, that allows Kamesh to create music that is profound and deeply moving.

Meditation Music with Mantras:

As one might expect, the science of spiritual and meditative music is quite rich and developed in India and is closely related to yogic thinking and philosophy.  There is music specifically made to activate the Chakras and affect Kundalini (Energy), and there are many tunes that are made just for the practice of yoga, prayer and certain meditations.  Honestly, creating music to simply help you relax is easy, but to create music that touches your soul and affects your vibratory level is something far greater.

You may already be familiar with Mantras (prayers) and the power they posses.  Mantras, of course, can be used for many different purposes, including relaxation, concentration, healing, meditation and more, and you will find the full collection that we host here on the following page: Free Online Mantra MP3 Downloads.  Now what happens when you take the most powerful mantra, the Gayatri Mantra and use the ancient spiritual musical knowledge to create a meditative musical piece?  You get something special, and that is what is being shared with you today for free.  The Gayatri Mantra in a particular Raga (tune) to be used to inspire and move you towards Infinity.  Now that’s what I call meditation music .

Gayatri Meditation Music for Relaxation Benefits:

Put a pot plant or nature photograph next to your computer. Look at it every now and then, with relaxed attention.

Close your eyes and give relaxed attention to your body posture.

Give relaxed attention to the sensations in your feet. It’s easier with the eyes closed.

Take a moment to stretch your body gently while giving relaxed attention to the body movements.

Wash your hands mindfully. Give relaxed attention to the sensations in the hands.

Place one hand upside down on your lap, and give relaxed attention to the sensations in the palm. If you can’t feel anything, rub the palms together or gently against your jeans, to make it easier.

Close your eyes and become aware of your nose, ears, eyes, lips, tongue or heartbeat. Give relaxed attention to a body part of your choice.

Give relaxed attention to any discomfort or physical pain that you feel in the body.

Open and close doors mindfully as opposed to habitually. Give relaxed attention to your body movements while opening and closing doors.

Keep the practice simple and as free from distractions as possible.

Give relaxed attention to your meditation object while going in elevators and escalators.

Give relaxed attention to the movements of your feet or the sensations, while walking in stairs.

Close your eyes and feel the space around you. Relax, don’t try too hard.

Give relaxed attention to your body temperature. It’s soothing to give the body attention.

Give relaxed attention to birdsong and the silence in between chirps.

Mindfully watch leaves fall from the trees in autumn.

Mindfully observe a cat or dog. Refrain from thinking about your observations.

Go people watching. Give relaxed attention to what you see without thinking or commenting about it.

Lie down on your back, put one hand on the abdomen and the other on the chest. Give relaxed attention to the sensation of breathing, the movement of the chest and abdomen. Or focus on the sensation of air flowing through your nostrils. It’s easier to concentrate with the eyes closed. Try and see what works best for you.

Give relaxed attention to what it feels like to be sleepy.

Give relaxed attention to your hand movements while washing dishes, or the sounds or sensation of the water on your hands.

Light a fire, a candle light or incense. Listen to it or feel the heat.  What does it smell like? Only focus on one meditation object at the time.

Eat mindfully. Give relaxed attention to the tastes and textures of the food or chew and swallow mindfully.

Give relaxed attention to sensations such as hunger, thirst or overeating.

Brush your teeth mindfully. Give relaxed attention to the hand movements or the sensations in the mouth.

Dress and undress mindfully. Give relaxed attention to the body movements or the sensation of the clothes against your body.

If you bored, give relaxed attention to what that feels like.

If you’re listening to a boring person, take the opportunity to listen mindfully. Instead of thinking habitually while he speaks, give relaxed attention to what is being said.

Sit on a stool, sofa, rock or even in the grass. What does it feel like?  Is the surface soft, hard, cool or warm? Become aware of the pressure against your bottom. Give relaxed attention to the sensation of sitting.

The same can be done while standing. Give relaxed attention to the pressure on your feet or what it feels like to stand.

Walk barefoot, the slower you walk the easier it is. How does the ground feel? Is it hot, cold, rough or smooth? Give relaxed attention to the sensations in the souls of your feet. Only practice for as long as the mind is fresh.

Watch a movie or listen to music mindfully. Give relaxed attention to what you see or hear, as opposed to thinking about it.

Listen mindfully to yoga or meditation talks by great masters.

Don’t try too hard, which only makes for physical and mental tension. All you have to do is give relaxed attention to your meditation object. Relax and enjoy the present moment.

Make yourself as comfortable as possible whenever you practice.

Go to the beach. What does it smell like? Or give relaxed attention to what the wind against your skin feels like. What do the waves sound like?  Can you feel the vibrations from the crashing waves in the air or on the ground? Only give relaxed attention to one meditation object at the time.

Sit next to a creek or waterfall and give relaxed attention to the sounds or vibrations.

Listen mindfully to rain, thunder or other nature sounds.

Give relaxed attention to a sunrise, sunset, cloud, the moon or stars.

Give relaxed attention to the smell of freshly brewed coffee or baked bread.

When you feel restless, give relaxed attention to the sensations in your body. If the restlessness persists, go for a walk and give relaxed attention to the movements of your feet. The slower you walk the easier it is.

Give relaxed attention to what it feels like to be happy, sad, irritated, angry, frustrated or stressed out.

Shower or wash your hair mindfully. Give relaxed attention to the sensation of the bar of soap against your skin, or to your hands and fingers. Normally, we are absent minded while in the shower and our minds tend to wander. For example, while washing the hair you may be thinking about tomorrow.

Mindfully do laundry or other forms of cleaning. Give relaxed attention to your hand movements or the sensations in your hands. The slower you work the easier it is.

Read mindfully. Give relaxed attention to what you read.

Give relaxed attention to any sensation or emotion in your abdomen or chest.

Fill a plastic bottle with one third of water and put on the screw top.  Close your eyes and listen to the sound of the water as you slowly turn the bottle with your hands. Or give relaxed attention to what it feels like when the water flows from the bottom to the cap.

Enjoy the stillness that mindfulness meditation brings.
