Tantric Technique to Raise Sexual Energy

Sat Kriya – Kundalini Tantra Yoga Technique

Sexual energy, according to Kundalini Tantra Yoga, is considered the most concentrated form of biochemical energy in the human body.  In addition, it is also considered the one form of energy that can be used, not only for physical wellbeing, but also for the evolution of consciousness.  This is the primary reason why tantra yoga does not look to suppress sexual energy, but instead devises techniques to raise the vibration of this profound multi-purpose energy to help you with your spiritual growth.

One of the core techniques in Kundalini Tantra, which is designed specifically for raising the vibration of sexual energy and stimulating kundalini directly, is Sat Kriya.  Sat Kriya is a key exercise in Kundalini Yoga and is recommended for everyone to do everyday.  In fact, for men, who are looking to choose just one tantric yoga technique to do, Sat Kriya is the exercise that is recommended.

Design of Sat Kriya – Tantric Yoga Technique to Raise Sexual Energy:

Sat Kriya is very powerful exercise for the transmutation of sexual energy and the stimulation of kundalini shakti (energy).  In fact, when I was putting together the 3 Most Powerful Yoga Techniques article, Sat Kriya certainly gave Sodarshan Chakra Kriya a run for it’s money.

Sat Kriya, like Sodarshan Chakra Kriya, combines several key aspects of Kundalini Tantra to bestow it’s numerous benefits and below is a list of these components to give you an understanding behind how this terrific technique works.

  • As Sat Kriya directly stimulates kundalini (potential energy stored at the base of the spine) it uses the beej (seed) Mantra SAT NAM to ensure that kundalini is being approached with respect and reverence.  Using this mantra creates a humble and devotional attitude towards kundalini shakti, so that her ascent is peaceful and trouble free.
  • The vibrations of the SAT NAM mantra are also used by Sat Kriya to stoke and hammer the sleeping energy at the base of the spine, thus stimulating her to awaken.
  • The physical posture and movements of this tantric technique, increase the strength of your sexual energy and also direct it upwards so that it can be used by the higher centers.
  • Body locks (bandhas) are further employed by Sat Kriya to channel the sex energy upwards to be used for spiritual growth.

Benefits of Sat Kriya – Tantric Yoga Technique to Raise Sexual Energy:

  • Awakens Kundalini Shakti.
  • Improves the entire sexual system and increases the vibrations of sexual energy.  Also, channels sex energy upwards to be used for higher functions.
  • Cures deep seated fears, sexual or otherwise, and makes you courageous.
  • Massages the internal organs to promote health and wellbeing.
  • Helps the elimination system.
  • Cures sexual dysfunctions.
  • Balances and harmonizes the personality with the higher self.

Guided Sat Kriya – Tantric Technique to Raise Sexual Energy:

  • Sit in rock pose.  (Rock pose means to sit back on your heels with your back straight – Illustration #1 & #2).
  • Stretch your arms straight up such that the upper arms are hugging your ears.  The elbows should be straight.  Clasp your hands together, such that all the finger are interlaced, except for the index finger of each hand.  The index fingers are pointed straight up and pressed together (Illustration #3).
  • Elongate your spine upwards, lengthen your neck and subtly bring your chin back and in, like a soldier at attention.  This will align the spine with the back of your head.
  • Now begin to chant SAT NAM as follows out loud.  Speak the sound SAT powerfully and as you say it pull your navel up and in towards the spine.  Feel the sound SAT hammer the base of the spine.  Next, relax the belly as you say the sound NAM.  The sound NAM is made softly, as opposed to the sound SAT which is made powerfully.  The only movement you do consciously is the pulling in and relaxing of the navel.
  • Continue to chant SAT NAM along with the navel contractions at about 8 repetitions every 10 seconds or so.  Find a good rhythm.
  • To end, inhale deeply and apply root lock, diaphragm lock and neck lock with your breath held in.  Root lock is the contraction of the rectum, sex organ and lower navel, diaphragm lock is pulling up and in of the diaphragm and neck lock is to pull the neck muscles back while tucking the chin in and back slightly.  As you apply all three locks, visualize energy being propelled up the spine and into your brain.  You may repeat the application of triple lock (maha bandh) as above 2 more times if you like.
  • After completing Sat Kriya you must rest (preferably on your back in corpse pose) for a time equal to that spent doing this technique.

Sat Kriya – Tantra Yoga Technique Hints & Tips

  • Start with 1 minute a day, then work your way up to 3 minutes as a regular practice.  If you would like to master this technique, you can build up to 11 and then 31 minutes / day.
  • You will notice that there is no special breathing associated with this technique, this is because the breath takes care of itself during the exercise.
  • When you apply Maha Bandha (triple lock) and hold your breath in towards the end, only do so for a period of time you are comfortable with.  Do not overdo it.  In addition, do not apply diaphragm lock during this stage, if you have heart problems or if it makes you uncomfortable.
  • An advanced hand posture is to have the hands pressed together (like in namaste pose), instead of the finger interlaced.  This advanced technique should only be practiced after you have mastered the basic method, as it will promote even greater flow of energy which you must be ready to handle.
  • If you are interested in more tantric techniques associated with sex and sexuality, you can check out the Tantra & Sex category here on Mastery of Meditation.

In “Sat Kriya – Raising the Sexual Energy” you’ve said to do 8 repetitions every 10 seconds. Please guide me as to how much time 1 rep should take if the interval b/w 2 reps is 10 seconds. Thank you. Regards.

    Anmol,
I just discovered your site and youtube videos today. I really like your approach and generousity in giving of your knowledge. I have been diagnosed with a pituitary tumor (non cancerous) but do not have insurance to get it removed. No knowing how long it’s been there. I have not had sexual desire for maybe 10 years. Previously I had normal sexual desires but they are non existant now. I haven’t had or even wanted a relationship for as long. There are other issues; serious anxiety and mental confusion, complete lack of energy both physical and emotional & irritability. It has negatively affected my job and all my relationships. Should I practice Kundalini mediation and yoga? Will awakening Kundalini energy help my pituitary & energy problems? Is Sat Nam appropriate for females?
thanks again for your teachings and help.

    Hello Anmol!

11-31 minutes per day… Can i use 5 + 6 minutes to get 11 minutes per day or i must do 11 minutes at once, not breaking on a pause?

Anyway i`ve began from 11 minutes… Interesting technique, after 3 minutes of it, i was able to move my mobile phone not using a hands, i mean that somehow my psychic ability to move things enchancing after this training!

I`ve bean using an advanced version instead of basic one, beacause i already handled the kundalini blows before (that was something insane… And after this humanity is busy developing weapons? They do know what this kundalini capable of…)
    and i think i ready for advanced practice :) :) :)

By the way, can i combine for example butterfly pose with SAT NAM chant? I mean, if both poses somehow affect the same chakra, can we combine them to double effect or somehow enchance it?

    All the best,
    Andrew.

Hi. What advice can you give to someone who constantly craves sex- to the point where the person feels like they’re drowning in the desire of it? Im not exactly sure how to explain it, but it’s deeper than physical act itself. The physical act is not anywhere close enough to calming it. It’s a craving for something more that seems difficult to channel. It feels like it would consume the person and make them burst into flames. The person meditates daily- it’s because of the meditation, the person stays sane. lol. It’s a constant battle to control. Thanks, as always.

    Hi Anthony,

Given how powerful this Kriya is, the resting afterwords is certainly a must. As you noticed during this time, kundalini can do her part.

Thanks for sharing and glad the kriya is proving to be helpful.

    Best,
    Anmol

here’s an interesting article about sexual energy

Another reading says to “teach children the beauty and sacredness of sex, and how to contain themselves within themselves.”5 Lest there be any doubt about the meaning of this phrase, the readings advise adults that they can relieve stress and regenerate the body by stopping masturbation.6 This view is currently out of fashion, but given the brain chemistry changes that orgasm produces in the reward circuit, it is likely that humanity will have to revisit its faith in the tremendous benefits of masturbation before much longer. Potent sexual stimuli are what scientists call a “natural reinforcer.” That is, like junk food, such stimuli can have a drug-like effect on the human brain.

However, desire is a dynamic energy, which it is unwise to repress.7 Conserving sexual energy without giving it out in service to others can create ill health by over-charging the system.8 Therefore, especially if one is single, it is helpful to have non-sexual outlets, such as creativity, spiritual pursuits, or service, to express one’s life force energy. According to the readings, Cayce’s psychic powers and ability to serve others derived from his sexual energy.9

The Commentary speaks of a purification process of ten days to cleanse the reproductive force. In my personal experience, the temporary mood swings, cravings, feelings of annoyance, and so forth from a passion bout seem to last about two weeks. However, it takes longer than that for most adults to master a new habit.

How do we go about the purification process?

One can find Taoist, Hindu, and Tibetan techniques that force the conserved sexual energy upward, away from the sexual center. However, the Cayce readings caution that raising the kundalini energy is dangerous unless one has “crucified desire in oneself.” Without this preparation, the results are unstable and the kundalini may inflame desires, rather than enhancing true spirituality. 10 Cayce also points out that kundalini techniques are a means of attaining celibacy, rather than spiritual union.11

In my experience, a cooperative effort with a partner is the key to a stable transition from conventional to non-instinctual sex. A gentler, more heart-centered, non-performance oriented approach seems to work better than techniques that force the life force energy upward — perhaps because the calmer, more giving, approach sustains oxytocin levels. Therefore, I recommend that those who want to experience the benefits of making love without orgasm take a very gradual, generous approach, beginning with two weeks of affectionate, selfless exchanges like foot massages, head massages, meditating while holding hands, and so forth. “Hold,” as Cayce says, “to that love which is un-sexed!”12

Kundalini raises sexual energy, then many, I believe, make the mistake of utilizing tha energy into satisfying carnal desires (masturbation, etc). utilizing that energy into spiritual development is what Edgar Cayce, the Gnostics and other mystery religions, preached to their followers.

I have been studying many of Edgar Cayce’s readings and a lot of it points to utilizing sexual energy into what he called connecting to “creative forces” and use it to server mankind for the better. this creative force is the same as Christ Consciousness or enlightenment.

carnal desires are what caused the “fall of man.” pursuit of these carnal desires is what stops our spiritual development and must be avoided (it is hard, I find it very hard myself being married).

[…] At the heart of personal yoga practice, regardless of whether it is Hatha Yoga or Kundalini Yoga, lies yoga sets. The building block for these sets are, of course yoga poses and exercises, and how to put them together in order to design effective sets and routines is a key aspect of yoga as well. In this article I would like to give you six important guidelines on how to construct these sets. 6 Guidelines for Designing Kundalini & Hatha Yoga Sets: 1. Who Should Design Yoga Sets: Do not try to design a set if you are just beginning yoga practice. Attend some classes first and develop your personal practice before tying to design your own routines and sets. The last thing you want to do is practice yoga and create more injuries and imbalances for yourself. 2. Yoga Sets Should be Balanced: This is one of the most important aspects of a yoga set. By balance here I mean that the poses that twist and stretch you one way, should at some point be balanced with poses that twist and stretch you the other way. Similarly, you should design sets that stretch both arms, both legs, etc, equally if possible. In addition, rotations done in one direction should be followed by rotations done in the other direction. So if in your set you have a backward bending yoga posture, then at some point it is wise to have a forward bending yoga pose as well. As an example, if you employ Cobra Pose early in your set, you can balance it with the Forward Bending Pose sometime later. This will ensure that you don’t end up creating sets after which you feel out of balance and un-centered. 3. Chakras Work Should Be Done Low to High: In general the rule to follow, especially for Kundalini Yoga Kriyas, is to start working on the lower chakras first and then move up towards the higher chakras. So you would tend to do an exercise like Crow Pose, which works on the Root Chakra, early in the set and do Stretch Pose, which works on the Navel Chakra, sometime after that. This helps to sequentially increase the vibration of the energy higher and higher. 4. Yoga Breathing Guidelines: For most exercises and postures a corresponding breath is indicated. In most cases, there are several options available that allow you to breathe at a level which is comfortable for you. So advanced practitioners might do Breath of Fire, while a beginner might do Long Deep Breathing with a particular pose. One rule with yoga breathing though, is that generally you should inhale when expanding the chest and abdominal region and exhale during the movement which contracts these regions. This allows for maximum benefit from the movements and exercises. 5. Rest Periods: It is wise to design specific rest periods within a set. The one important aspect though of rest, which should be included in every Kundalini Yoga kriya, is a period of relaxation at the end of the kriya. This relaxation time is critical to allow the body to assimilate all the energy that has been awakened by the yoga exercises. It is during this time, the body heals, grows and nourishes itself. 6. Warm-Ups: If your set consists mostly of difficult yoga poses and exercises only, make sure you do a warm-up set first before jumping into advanced postures. If you plan to do your set only, then ensure that it first starts off with simple yoga postures and movements, so that you are properly warmed up, then moves on to the more challenging exercises. Warm-ups and not overdoing it are your best defenses against injury. Summary of Making Your Own Yoga Sets: The sciences of Yoga, Meditation, Ayurveda, etc, are tools to help you in your own unique path to spiritual awakening. Designing your own Yoga Sets, to help you overcome your personal challenges, I think is a valuable skill to learn. I hope the guidelines above help you maximize the benefits from your personal yoga practice. Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen expert.
