[…] He’s also been doing 45 minutes of Kundalini yoga every day, using one of Anmol Mehta’s free on-line courses. Kundalini yoga focuses on moving energy in the body, and unblocking any energetic issues. It’s more about movement and breath than holding static postures for a length of time. It also focuses on pranayama and meditation. For less active people, or people who feel too big to move - Kundalini can be a great way to start getting into exercise, with a energy component. […]

I would like to participate in your online kundulini courses. Can you explain what happens when you over activate the kundalini energy?
on September 14th, 2007 at 9:19 pm
Great to hear of your interest in the Kundalini Yoga courses. The courses are designed to more prepare the system to handle more and more kundalini than to activate kundalini energy directly. The energy is then trusted to rise intelligently on its own accord systematically. You can read about this approach in the following article 10 Important Guidelines to Kundalini Yoga Practice specially item #4-4 Kundalini Yoga Safety.
In the event that Kundalini Energy gets over activated then it becomes necessary to re-balance the system. Generally over activation would require to either cool the system via a Pitta (heat) reducing diet and life-style and/or to “ground” the system to bring the energy back down and settle it. This is handled in a case by case basis depending on the symptoms and troubles the over activation is causing.
Hope this is helpful.

Greetings Anmol,
I found your site on a search for guidance on the So Hum meditation. Your site is magnificent! And, of course, the blog entry for today is just what I need. Additionally, I have been on a spiritual quest for two years doing much reading on yoga, but have yet to fully embrace begining a practice of doing asanas. I feel this is my starting point for that and to begin serious meditation and other practices.
I would greatly enjoy utilizing your on-line classes and begin my journey to realize my true self. Thank you for offering such a deep and well organized venue.

[…] Now that we know what Chakras are and what they do, lets see how we can work on them. The key to opening and balancing Chakras is by purifying the Nadis of blockages and increasing the flow of Prana. This is best done through the use of Yoga and Pranayama. Yoga, specifically Kundalini or Kriya Yoga, and Pranayama are the essentially the science of Chakra Activation. They are designed to systematically dissolve the debris that collects and blocks the flow of energy through the nadis. When the flow increases, the Chakras are opened and, over time, become optimally balanced. This leads to higher levels of awareness and consciousness - which is to say that it leads to a human being achieving their highest potential. About the author: Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen expert. […] The most important aspect of Yoga is that it is based on Self-Realization. In other words, you are given the tools required, and using them you bring about the necessary transformations in yourself to reach your true potential in life. It is now often said, that the next great teachers will arise from the West. This is because the West has an empirical approach to things, as opposed to superstition and blind faith. If something works it is embraced and utilized, if something does not prove to work, it is discarded as junk. This is probably the reason why Yoga has grown in such popularity here in the West, because it works. So dive in and reap the benefits. About the author: Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen expert. hi Anmol,
I have been performing regularly the Kundalini Yoga Kriyas and poses I found on your web site and I am hooked. I just wanted to share a few tips with you and other readers.
Re the ‘Archer pose’, I found in an old excerpt from Yogi Bhajan’s where he suggested keeping the fingers curled with the tips pressing on the mounds while the thimb pulled back and vertical just like Eagle pose. I found that I feel more invigorated with this little variation.
Re ‘Spinal Flexes’ I again read in Yogiji’s original material that one needs to pull back the chin (throat lock) during the forward thrust (when the waist in pushed forward and the chest lifted ) and release the lock during backward movement.
Hope the readers find these tips useful.
Thanks and keep it up !
on February 4th, 2008 at 2:52 pm
Thanks for your contributions.
For Archer Pose, the full fist is hard to beat to give a sense of strength, exuberance and power, the thumb up helps give focus. I have seen it done and enjoyed both ways.
For spine flex, the key is the spine thrust forward and back. It is done with many variations as well. The most common is head level on both thrusts, or head up on forward thrust and chin in on backward thrust (this is most natural as well). I am not aware of the variation you have mentioned, but will try it, to explore it’s affects.
Thanks again for adding to the teachings.
Best,
Anmol

Good afternoon( or whatever is the time there)!
I am a CBSE student (going to appear for XII in Year 2009). I am deemed a good student by the school, however these days, it seems tough to be with the same reputation. I feel stressed all the time, and its difficult now to maintain the rank. Even during my studies, I tend to get away from studies thinking about something else. I would like to:
1). Improve my concentration
2). Learn how to plan productive
3). Decrease Stress…
and a few other things, which I would rather like to discuss in person.
Please comment and reply to my email. Currently, my XI exams are going on, and I am not able to concentrate. Since I don’t want the same to happen in XII, I need guidance. Please help.
Thank You,
Nirav
P.S. I would like to join the course/classes too.

Sounds like there is a hidden cause for your lack of concentration these days? Please focus on your exams as they are upon you already.
To develop your concentration and reduce stress I suggest the following meditation technique to be done starting at 5 minutes a day and building up to 20 minutes daily. From there we can move forward depending on how much time you can devote.
Here is the URL to that meditation. In addition I have provided a second meditation below it to help with concentration and stress as well, in case the first is not suitable to you.
Zazen - Zen Meditation Technique (try this first)
Trataka - Meditation for Concentration (if Zazen is not suitable)
Please let me know your progress. Best wishes to you on your ongoing exams.

Hi Anmol,
I’m new to your website. I’m having some issues with my first 3 chakras and I would like to work on these 3 specifically. I’m having some fear issues that are physically affecting my base chakra- I recently realized that I always unconsciously tensed up my rectal muscles, even in fearful situations. I’ve done it so long, I thought it was normal. Now that I’m aware of it, I’m consciously trying to keep my rectal muscles relaxed. Do you have a specific kundalini program that deals with the base chakra? Also, do you have a kundalini program or class that deals with the solar plexus, developing inner strength, inner power, and willpower?

Thank you. I will eagerly wait for your reply. Please let me know if I can send my son’s case history to your email id.

For the height, it will be a challenge as such changes at your age are generally attributed to psychic powers, but you never know what is possible. Incorporate this desire into the visualization portion of the meditation in the above class.

A complete root chakra kriya is in the works, though it wont be online for a few weeks still. You can though practice kundalini yoga crow pose which will cleanse and clear the root chakra.
There is a good set for the navel chakra though, which will do all the things you have listed, and here is the link to that set…

hi sir, on feb 28th i asked question about weight loss and also got your response. But actually for the last 15 days i am practising a mix of halasana, matsyasana, sharvangasana, chakrasana, bhujangasana, pawan muktasana. Now after reading your reply i am puzzled as to whether i shall stop all those asanas and start your recomendations or continue with both of them. I also want to awaken kundalini shakti in me very much which is a childhood dream. But after reading here Arun momia’s problems due to awakening of kundalini without proper body preparation, i am in a state of dillema as to what should i do to accomplish evrything without any unneccessary problems.
on March 5th, 2008 at 12:05 pm
You are welcome to continue doing the asanas and incorporate the pranayama from the weight loss course. Then after some time, change up and do the weight loss yoga set. Variety in exercise is a valuable tool to stimulate the body towards better health and fitness.
This physical approach will prepare the body and internal systems to better handle the increase in kundalini and prana which yoga practice promotes. The golden rule is not to overdo it, but instead to make steady progress.
Let me know how it goes.

sir as per your instruction i have started to do the pranayams–kapalbhati and bhastrika alongwith those yogasanas but the problem is it is very difficult to download any video from this site for reference . Today i tried for nearly 2/3 hours to download pranayam videos and kundalini videos but its showing error only after 30 to 40 seconds. Also to watch here is very very slow. can you please help improve the video download contents.Thank you.
on March 7th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Sorry you had problems downloading the videos. Thank you for informing me as I was unaware that this was an issue for anyone. All the videos are uploaded to video.google.com (and embedded on this website from there). So I suggest you go straight to video.google.com and then simply search for “Anmol Mehta” and all my videos should show up. Hopefully, it will be faster for you to download directly from there.
Here is the URL of when I followed the steps above, in case you want to just click that…

sir, as per your instruction i went to google video and tried to download the videos, but almost all your videos after downloading some 30% to 31% showing errors and failure. I was able to download some other video from google video very smoothly but not yours. Even i searched You Tube and found 2 of your video there and was able to download from there but not from google video. Please do something if you have time, or else please upload all to You Tube, so that it can be downloaded. Thank you.

Almost all the yoga and meditation videos are on You Tube as well. My ID on You Tube is AnmolMehtaCom. You can search for that, but even better you should be able to go to my channel and see all the videos there.

Am happy (and relieved :-) you were able to download the free yoga videos from youtube.
Almost no once gets the Breath of Fire correct the first few times. Practice daily for at least 1 minute. Here are the common problems…
1. Breathing in too much or out too much, thus needing to reset often. The inhalation and exhalation need to be the same quantity, with equal emphasis.
2. Using the diaphragm to pull the air in deep into the abdomen. Don’t do this, instead just breathe light and shallow, keeping the air at the tip of the nose (like very fast sniffing). The diaphragm will pulse on it’s own.
Let me know after 1 week of practice if you are still having trouble and we will go into it further.

Sometimes when I meditate it feels like I fall asleep even though I’m not tired. Is it possible that I fall so deep into meditation that I loose track of my outer senses? Or do I really just sleep? I can’t remember anything from those sessions.. And it only happens once in a while.
on April 14th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
You may be actually falling asleep which can certainly happen. It’s a good chance to just gently retain awareness and see the mind during this phase, when the ordinary mind is quite diminished. Often it allows for an opening to take place to see what is beyond.

Please start the Introduction to Yoga & Meditation Course. It will help change your perspective and identification.
Life is challenging you, I understand. At this time I suggest 2 things.
1. Count all the blessings you do have, every single morning.
2. Imagine, if despite the suffering you are going through, you are able to smile and say that’s ok. Then you would have truly mastered the moments of your life. Meditation will help you in this regard.
Please let me know how you progress with the course.

This leads to higher levels of awareness and consciousness, which is to say that it leads to a human being achieving their highest potential. I don’t have a pre-natal yoga program uploaded at this time. If you are expecting make sure any yoga you do is done gently and also don’t put pressure on the abdominal region.
I will try to put up a pre/post natal set in the near future as I have a lot of requests for that. Be on the lookout for it.
All Good Wishes,

I’m new at this and already I feel a more calming presence within. I Have a question and would like to know your advice. In a book that I read it said that if you open the heart chakra 1st it will in turn balance all the other chakras. Is this so? I started with the beginning meditation course and would like to know what class should I take next. Should I take the ultimate health course in or to cleanse my body before trying to awaken the Kundalini?? Thank you for your great service….Peace and Blessings
on October 27th, 2008 at 9:51 pm
There are many views to which Chakra is worth opening first. Here are those for you to decide what works best for you….
1. Open Navel Chakra first so you have the energy and willpower to sustain your yoga practice. Probably important for those taking the physical yoga path…
2. Open Third Eye first so you have inner guidance and wisdom. Probably important for those doing Kriya Yoga after doing Hatha Yoga to get into good physical condition…
3. Open Heart Chakra First so you can guided by love and service. Important for everyone I would say :-D…
I would say to assess you strengths and weaknesses and take it from there.
Yes I am a big fan of building the body and systems up before working with Kundalini directly (if at all). So your idea is a good one, to take the Ultimate Health Course next.
All Good Wishes,
Anmol

[…] Filed Under Health Yoga is a powerful tool to help you blossom and reach your full human potential. The seeds are all within you, yoga is the water, the sunlight, the nutrients and the love they need in order to make your life vibrant, beautiful and full of sweet fragrance. It is not a religion, it is really a science with which to develop your body, mind and spirit. The ultimate goal of Yoga, which literally means, Union, is to reunite you with the Universal Source. You may call this Universal Source by any name you wish, God, Brahman, Allah, Christ Consciousness, Buddha Nature etc, Yoga is a pathway to bring you to the realization that you and this Universal Source are inseparably One.There are many branches of Yoga, such as Bhakti Yoga, Hatha Yoga, Jnana Yoga, Laya Yoga, Raja Yoga, Karma Yoga, Kundalini Yoga to name a few. These all have the same one goal, unification with the Universal Source, but each follow a different path to get there. Depending on your personality one or the other path may suit you better. Here is a description of some of the major branches of Yoga:* Bhakti Yoga: Emphasizes love as the pathway to liberation and Union.* Jnana Yoga: Emphasizes the intellectual and philosophical approach to penetrate the illusion of dualistic reality.* Karma Yoga: Emphasizes right action and selfless service as the path to moksha (liberation).* Kundalini Yoga: Emphasizes the activation of Kundalini Shakti for enlightenment.* Raja Yoga: Considered the Scientific approach, this branch emphasizes Sage Pantanjali’s 8 step path to Self-Realization.In this article I will expand on Raja Yoga as that is perhaps the most prevalent and popular Yoga system in use today. As indicated above Raja Yoga employs Sage Pantanjali’s 8 step path to achieve Union with the Supreme. This 8 step system (ashtanga) compromises of the following parts. Yamas, Niyamas, Pranayama, Pratyahara, Dharana, Dhyana, and finally Samadhi. This 8 step path is designed to bring about physical, emotion and mental harmony; and in the advanced practices of Dharana, Dhyana and Samadhi lead to the cessation of thoughts allowing the mind to realize that Reality is indeed Singular, Whole and indivisible. Here is a description of the 8 limbs of Raja Yoga:1. Yamas: Yamas are abstensions. They are truth, nonviolence, control of sexual energy, nonstealing and noncovetousness.2. Niyams: Niyams are observances. They are austerities, purity, contentment, study and egolessness.3. Asanas: Steady postures and poses.4. Pranayama: Breathing exercises and control of the vital energy.5. Pratyahara: Withdrawal of the Senses.6. Dharana: Concentration of the mind.7. Dhyana: Meditation.8. Samadhi: Union with the Supreme Consciousness. The regular practice of Raja Yoga promotes health, happiness and insight. Although the ultimate goal of Yoga is Union with the Supreme, many material benefits are also obtained by its practice. Today, many ailments are treated via the use of Yoga asanas and pranayamas, and the stress reducing benefits of Yoga meditation are becoming more and more valuable to us given our hectic and frantic lifestyles. Furthermore, the principles of humility, truth and other high values that Yoga promotes are helping to offset some of the excessive materialism and greed that is eroding the peace and spirit of our society today. The most important aspect of Yoga is that it is based on Self-Realization. So dive in and reap the benefits.By: Anmol MehtaAbout the Author: Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen expert. […] Comprehensive Guide To Worldwide Meditation Techniques There are as many types of meditation techniques as there are wonderful flavors of ice cream. This allow each person to find a flavor that is delicious to them. In this article series I will provide an overview of many of the different meditation techniques that exist and hopefully this will help you find the style that is sweetest to you. Some meditation styles suit those of an intellectual disposition, while others are more attractive to those who prefer the path of love and surrender. Still others, with an active approach to life, may like the meditation techniques involving movement, while those with a strong mind would enjoy the approach of visualization and concentration. Overall, there are several broad categories under which we can capture most of these various meditation practices and in Part 1 I will explore Insight Meditation Techniques and Sound (Mantra) and Intention Meditation Techniques.1. Insight Meditation Techniques: These are the meditations of choice for the Gyan Yogis or those drawn to the intellectual path. It incorporates the advanced meditation techniques from the Zen school of Buddhism, the Advaita Vedanta school of Hinduism, certain schools of Western Religions among others.A. WHO AM I Meditation Technique: This techniques comes from the school of Advaita Vedanta (Non-Dualism / End of Knowledge). The meditation was popularized by Shri Ramana Maharishi and is based on negation of the false self in order to realize one’s True Nature. Here is an example of my experience with WHO AM I Meditation Practice.B. Koan Meditation Technique: These meditations come from the Zen school of Buddhism and are designed to break down the ordinary pattern of conceptual, dualistic thinking. By breaking down the interference created by the thinking mechanism the practitioner is brought to confront the non-dual reality of “what is” directly and thus Awaken.C. Contemplation Meditation Technique: These meditations utilize introspection, self-study, reflection, self-dialogue and contemplation to cut through the layers of false conditioning and false understanding that deludes the mind. These meditations have their roots in many Western Religions and are also a part of Eastern philosophies.D. Silent Mind Meditation Technique: This meditation technique is my contribution to this category and it involves directly perceiving the fact of what is by acute observation of the thinking process. This is the flavor that I enjoy best and I have explained it in detail in the The Silent Mind Meditations, which are part of the Silent Mind Meditation Program. These meditations are an extension of the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti.2. Sound (Mantra) & Intention Meditation Techniques: The meditations that fall under this category use the science of sound and thought vibrations (Naad Yoga), along with rhythm and music (Laya Yoga) to purify the heart and mind. These meditations have a wide range of applications, from bestowing Enlightenment, to improving health, wealth, happiness, peace etc…A. Mantra Japa Meditation Technique: This meditation method uses the repetition of a mantra (a particular sound, word or phrase) verbally or mentally to create the necessary conditions for purification, refinement or expansion to take place. Mantras are essentially keys which allow one to tune into the individual energy field or tune into the Universal Energy field to produce certain desired results. Here is an example of using OM Mantra to activate the Third Eye Chakra.B. Rhythm Meditation Technique: This form of meditation uses the combination of rhythm, chanting, music and breath to calibrate and perfect the system. The excellent Three Step Rhythmic Breathing (3srb) meditation technique of Sage Pantanjali and many Kundalini Yoga meditations fall under this category, among others.C. Meditation via Song: Most of the meditations from the path of Devotion (Bhakti Yoga) and Love, designed to dissolve the ego belong in this category. This is a path most dear to those who are emotional in nature and feel a deep love for the divine. Christianity, Gospel, Sufi Meditations, Hare Krishna Meditations, Kirtans and Bhajans are some examples of techniques in this category.D. Meditation via Prayer & Intention: All religions have meditations involving prayer and worship. The meditations that also use the power of intention to manifest desires fall under this category. So you can see from above, these is a rich diversity to the Art of Meditation and certainly something for everybody. If one of the styles above does not catch your fancy, not to worry, I will be serving up more tasty flavors in part 2 of this series.By: Anmol MehtaAbout the Author: Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen Expert. So dive in and reap the benefits.By: Anmol MehtaAbout the Author: Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen expert. […] No money? It just takes one book, or one DVD, or finding one Koha class, or accessing any of the free online classes available. Or even finding a yoga teacher and working out some kind of trade with him or her. I don’t care how damn poor you are, if you really wanted to do yoga, you would find someone willing to teach you. If someone turned up on my doorstep and told me they couldn’t pay me but wanted to learn yoga, what do you think I would say? Would I send them packing and tell them not to come back until they’d found some cash. Hell no! I’d admire their chuputz and I would teach them! […]

Dear Anmol,
Require your expert suggestion on the fol: as the opposing views are quite confusing:
One school seems to state - early morning yoga not to be preceded by bath, whereas it is also heard that the students are asked to take a cold shower in the morning before beginning the practice. Pl elucidate.
I also await your guidance reg: anjali,my wife, who intends to start KY but has mild BP and cholesterol . Pl suggest the most suitable package for her. Iam on way towards completing #105 and feel GREAT.

Great to hear you are reaping the rewards of yoga. For weight loss please check out the online healthy weight loss yoga set, which is part of course #104 above.
For personality development and stress relief I would strongly suggest course #100 (beginner’s meditation course). It can radically change you for the better in all ways.

It is all the work of the Almightly, I am just a channel. All thanks go to him. Great to hear of the benefits you are reaping.
For your wife, I would suggest course #100 to start with. The Anuloma Viloma Pranayama in course #100 is excellent for helping with hypertension, stress release and high BP, so regardless she should include that in her practice on a daily basis.
Cold shower is recommended by Kundalini Yoga, but I feel it is ok to adjust depending on season and body type. Having said that, at the very least one should try to freshen up significantly before morning yoga and meditation practice to avoid the challenge of sleep and drowsiness.

Hi Anmol. Thank you so much for such a wonderful website that you obviously put alot of time and effort into. I have been meaning to learn & practice meditation for a long time but with a combination of half-hearted attempts and a very restless mind, I never really got anywhere. The last few weeks, several things have led me to look into Zazen & Kundalini. I have just recently moved country and found out today that theres a yoga-centre that teaches Kundalini a few minutes from my new home! Bar flashing neon lights, I don’t think I could be getting a clearer sign to get started! I’m enjoying your guides and videos very much and hope to start following them soon. Thank you again for this resource.

Glad to hear you are planning to start the classes. Classes 99 & 100 are introductory in nature (basic yoga and beginner meditation), they are good to do if you are new. After that though can pick any class you wish, and don’t have to follow the numerological order.

If you are unwell and have a blocked nose, don’t do the yoga pranayamas for sure. You can do some gentle stretching, but other than that my suggestion is to get better first and then continue with the program.
If you are able to focus though, do try to do some of the meditation.

Hello Anmol,
I am unsure now as of how I came across one of your youtube videos where you teach some yoga to warm up the lower part of the back and the spine. (How can I get back to them?)
I have some degree of scoliosis that I developed over time due to a hip displacement issue I have from birth, so you can imagine that I have seen and tried several physical therapies and although I can basically do anything physically, I tend to be in constant pain.
However I tried your series in this video I just mentioned, and I was actually able to jump on my yoga ball right after without any pain. Later on I slept like a baby.
I will surly give a try to your online classes and I will keep you updated on my progress. I have spent most of my weekend reading your articles and exploring your site. It’s really wonderful, you’re a gifted man, thank you.
Any suggestions on your side, I’d happily accept.
From far away in Mexico.

There are sets though which are time specific, such as Kriyas which help you sleep and others that help you awaken. I will indicate that requirement along with the sets, when I publish those.

Hi Anmol - I live in London and have been practising an eclectic form of yoga - both at home and in classes for a few years now…one of my favourite teachers always reads lovely, moving passages and excerpts from her massive collection of books, both to open and close a class…her class last night was opened with a reading from a book by Osho on courage…I was going to buy it from amazon just a few minutes ago but then thought I could perhaps search for the passage she had read out that had so moved me by Googling some of the key words. Even with today’s advanced technology the Universe’s way of linking event to unfolding event is yet a beautiful mystery - needless to say it led me to your site which I haven’t come across before despite the amount of time I spend trawling the net for this kind of thing! Nonetheless - found in the right time and the right way no doubt - I just wanted to express my admiration and respect to you and the efforts you must put in to create and fill and maintain a site of this breadth and calibre. How completely amazing! I havent had a chance to scour it to the depth that i would like as it is past my bedtime but i had to just express my immediate and very positive impressions. I am definitely interested in trying out your online classes too - just not sure which one at the moment as I havent had a close a look at it as I’d like…
Excess heat in my body is definitely something I want to tackle so perhaps there will be something on your menu to guide me in the right direction…
Bless you for your efforts…

Great to see that our stars are aligned and you have stumbled across the website. Thank you for such kind words and inspiring feedback.
For excess heat, an anti-pitta ayuredic diet (no hot, spicy foods or foods that generate heat in the system) is an important aspect.
Pranayamas are also helpful, I would suggest the following 3…
Anuloma Viloma
Sheetali Pranayama
Exclusive Left Nostril Breathing (no article yet)
Glad to hear you may try some of the online classes. Let me know how it goes.

I want to joing the online classes of yoga and meditation. I have been doing meditation MT, sometimes I leave it but I am trying very hard to meditate daily. I just read a book that I really love “the authobiography of a yogy” and I realized that is a way to get the dearly enlighten that I have been looking for. I haven’t made or truly feel the real connection with God, with love, with oneness. And I feel the urgency to make it. Could you tell me here to start and guide me through my process?

Simple method i used, after struggling with weight/eating disorders/bad diets, etc. was the Surya Mudra. If you Google it, it will come up under Crystalotus.com, with a full description. Also Google “Complete Person” (educational blog, not the business site).
Establish what your dosha is, through testing, to make sure you are not putting yourself out of balance, and practice the mudra for as many hours per day as you can….at some point you may only need to practice it a little, here and there, or not at all! I practiced riding in cars (passenger), at movies, walking, watching TV, on phone…etc. The best is to get into a good classic meditation pose, hands on knees (turned up), arms straight and not moving for length of practice.
Minimum should be 15 min. 3x’s per day, or, 2 half-hour sittings per day, or, 45 minutes all-at-once.
It should also be done when rested and maybe best when stomache has finished digestion (?).
Benefits:
Raises metabolism/heat in body
Corrects relationship toward food
Supports body strength and athletic ability (i’m a dancer)
Dissolves fat
Redistributes fat around body
Creates light in the forehead
Be patient and do it every day.
Good luck and PEACE!

[…] Introduction To The Powerful Science Of Kundalini Yoga This article will provide a basic overview of what Kundalini Yoga is and how Kundalini Yoga works. At the core of Kundalini Yoga lies Kriyas and the best way to understand the methodology of Kundalini Yoga is to understand Kriyas and their functioning. Kriyas are a set of exercises done in a particular sequence to work on a specific theme. There are a wide range of Kriyas available, each refined over thousands of years to optimize their effectiveness. Kriyas utilize all the available Kundalini Yoga mechanisms to work their magic. They employ asans (postures), movement, pranayam (breathing exercises), bandhas (body locks), mantras (sound vibrations), mudras (hand positions), laya yoga (yoga of rhythm and sound), mental focus and meditation to do their work.Dynamic movement and asans bring expanding and contracting pressure via multiple angles to various areas of the body, this is accompanied with powerful pranayams, the combined effect of which is that the target regions are saturated with highly charged and oxygenated blood. This nutrient rich blood fills the capillaries forcing them to discharge toxins and other harmful elements, which are then eliminated, neutralized or expelled by the body. The health of the region thus improves and the nerves fire more completely, the glands and organs are invigorated and regain their natural voltage and secretion levels are returned to a condition of strength and vitality. The key here is the removal of blockages (granthis) that is taking place on many levels of the organism thus facilitating the flow of energy. There are Kriyas designed for working on almost every part of the human system (Immune, Glandular, Circulatory, Digestive, Nervous, Respiratory, Sexual, etc . . . ), working on our various traits and characteristics (Awareness, Intuition, Willpower, Confidence, Compassion, Charisma, etc . . . ) and also for healing many different types of ailments and diseases. Lets now see how this ties in with the Chakra (energy vortex) system. There are 7 primary chakras that lie all along the spine from the base to the crown of the head. Associated with each chakra are the primary nerve junctions and organs of that region. Furthermore, each chakra is responsible for certain traits and characteristics that make up our personality. When we strengthen and rejuvenate the nerves and organs in a particular region, we are in fact activating these energy centers that reside there and are thus working on ourselves not only at a physical level, but also at an emotional and mental level (by affecting our traits and characteristics). Practiced over time, the chakras become charged and come into balance with each other, bringing us into physical, emotional and mental well being. Again, it should be noted that the work being done is primarily about dissolving granthis (blockages) in these regions which introduce disease and imbalance into the system by preventing the chakras from functioning at their optimum level. Finally, let see how this relates to Kundalini Shakti.Kundalini is energy. It is the fundamental energy whose flow through the organism allows for all its systems to operate, at all levels of consciousness. It is the energy of awareness, it can be said that where your awareness is, that is where Kundalini is flowing or that where Kundalini is flowing is where your awareness is. To awaken Kundalini means to dissipate blockages in the gross and subtle systems in your being and allow for greater and greater flow of energy and awareness. As blockages are cleared trapped energy is released and pathways are cleared. Kundalini then is able to flow freely though those regions, healing, nourishing, rejuvenating and balancing them. The dissipating of blockages can also be thought of as the clearing away of the subconscious mind, the collection of unresolved emotional and physical disturbances, where lies the root of many of our attachments and fears. So overall Kundalini Yoga is a system by which one, through the process of dissolving the past, allows the infinite to shine through into the present.By: Anmol MehtaAbout the Author: Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen Expert. […] There are as many types of meditation techniques as there are wonderful flavors of ice cream. Overall, there are several broad categories under which we can capture most of these various meditation practices and in Part 1 I will explore Insight Meditation Techniques and Sound (Mantra) and Intention Meditation Techniques. 1. Insight Meditation Techniques: These are the meditations of choice for the Gyan Yogis or those drawn to the intellectual path. It incorporates the advanced meditation techniques from the Zen school of Buddhism, the Advaita Vedanta school of Hinduism, certain schools of Western Religions among others. A. WHO AM I Meditation Technique: This techniques comes from the school of Advaita Vedanta (Non-Dualism / End of Knowledge). The meditation was popularized by Shri Ramana Maharishi and is based on negation of the false self in order to realize one’s True Nature. Here is an example of my experience with WHO AM I Meditation Practice. B. Koan Meditation Technique: These meditations come from the Zen school of Buddhism and are designed to break down the ordinary pattern of conceptual, dualistic thinking. By breaking down the interference created by the thinking mechanism the practitioner is brought to confront the non-dual reality of “what is” directly and thus Awaken. C. Contemplation Meditation Technique: These meditations utilize introspection, self-study, reflection, self-dialogue and contemplation to cut through the layers of false conditioning and false understanding that deludes the mind. These meditations have their roots in many Western Religions and are also a part of Eastern philosophies. D. These meditations are an extension of the teachings of Jiddu Krishnamurti. 2. Sound (Mantra) & Intention Meditation Techniques: The meditations that fall under this category use the science of sound and thought vibrations (Naad Yoga), along with rhythm and music (Laya Yoga) to purify the heart and mind. These meditations have a wide range of applications, from bestowing Enlightenment, to improving health, wealth, happiness, peace etc… A. Here is an example of using OM Mantra to activate the Third Eye Chakra. B. Rhythm Meditation Technique: This form of meditation uses the combination of rhythm, chanting, music and breath to calibrate and perfect the system. The excellent Three Step Rhythmic Breathing (3srb) meditation technique of Sage Pantanjali and many Kundalini Yoga meditations fall under this category, among others. C. Meditation via Song: Most of the meditations from the path of Devotion (Bhakti Yoga) and Love, designed to dissolve the ego belong in this category. This is a path most dear to those who are emotional in nature and feel a deep love for the divine. Christianity, Gospel, Sufi Meditations, Hare Krishna Meditations, Kirtans and Bhajans are some examples of techniques in this category. D. Meditation via Prayer & Intention: All religions have meditations involving prayer and worship. The meditations that also use the power of intention to manifest desires fall under this category. So you can see from above, these is a rich diversity to the Art of Meditation and certainly something for everybody. If one of the styles above does not catch your fancy, not to worry, I will be serving up more tasty flavors in part 2 of this series. Anmol Mehta is a Yoga & Zen Expert. […] Meditation is an art that has been around since the dawn of the age of man. This is not a statement to be brushed over. After all, many many things about mankind have changed over time, but the profound art of meditation is something we have clung on to dearly. This is because there is no substitute for meditation. Nothing else, single handedly, bestows the many wonderful blessings that meditation brings… in fact nothing else even comes close. In this article I will outline the top 10 benefits that meditation brings and hopefully it will inspire all to learn and practice this timeless art. 1. Enlightenment: This is the one ultimate purpose of meditation. To help you discover the True Non-Dual Nature of Reality. To make you realize that your True Self is Divine and One with God. 2. Peace & Tranquility: The mind of one who meditates is like the easy, leisurely flow of the Ganges River, as compared to the ordinary mind, which is like Niagara Falls. In other words your mind is at peace, deeply silent and so you are at peace. 3. Wisdom: Meditation opens up the channels of communication between all levels of your being. What this means is that you have access now to the guidance that is coming directly from your Divine Self. This link gives rise to the flow of intuition and wisdom. 4. Joy & Happiness: Meditation strips away the layers of false identity that mask your True Self from shinning through. Once you eliminate these false egos and stop catering to their nonsense you can reside in your True Nature. This brings forth joy and happiness as it allows you to be at ease with life, existence and yourself. 5. Love & Compassion: As meditation reveals to you the interconnectedness of all humanity a great sense of compassion and love will spontaneously emerge. Knowing that deep within we are all divine in nature will change the way you view the apparent differences you see in others. This will also dramatically improve your relationships both intimate and casual. 6. Stress Reduction & Good Health: This goes hand in hand. As meditation teaches you the art of living in the present moment, anxiety and worry fade more and more into the background. This state of relaxed awareness is most beneficial, to not only helping the body heal itself, but also for preventing illness and disease by eliminating the poison of stress. 7. Improved Brain Function: All serious meditators know how much their brain function has been enhanced by meditation. Now, empirical studies every day are indicating this link. Meditation will undoubtedly increase your awareness and will significantly increase your intelligence. 8. Discover Your Purpose & Gifts: As you start to drop those aspects of you that are artificial and pretentious you will get a chance to see the real you. The parts that are not put on but are natural. This will give you insight into who you really are and what you really love in life. That is the secret of mastering the art of living and discovering your true talents, gifts and purpose. That which you love, you do for its own sake without the need for reward of accolades. Once this is discovered, life can be lived with passion, zeal and independence. 9. Yogic and Psychic Powers: We currently use only about 10% of our brain capacity. The practice of Yoga and Meditation awakens those regions of the Brain that normally lie dormant. When these areas of the brain are activated the powers they hold are unleashed. Such powers, used wisely, can be of benefit to others and of help to you in making progress on the spiritual path. 10. Magnificence: Charisma, Confidence, Courage, Character and Balance are all brought about by meditation. This leads to an individual who is immensely charming and magnetic. Best word I could think of to describe the collective affects of these personality improvements was Magnificent. Meditation will let your magnificence shine through. Hi Anmol,
Thanks for your suggestion regarding which classes to do. I have just done the second day of the second week of the Kundalini Yoga and Meditation classes and would like to share my experiences so far.
I read one of the articles that you wrote about the awakening of kundalini energy where you discussed some physical reactions. My reactions so far have been purely emotional/mental. For the last few days I have felt completely ‘out of sorts,’ I feel up in the air but dont know if im on the way up or on the way down.
I have been doing the yoga exercises and meditation as well as daily reiki sessions and the combination appears to be having a very powerful and not entirely pleasant effect.
I believe that the things that happened in my childhood have thrown my chakras so out of alignment that it really is taking a lot to get them back into place.
I just wanted know if you know of others who have had similar reactions to mine. I constantly feel very emotional and really not myself at all. Though I do intuitively believe that I am on the right path it isnt the easiest path to follow and is leaving me feeling a little vulnerable and fearful.

Hi anmol,
I have tried to maintain a meditation schedule earlier but couldn’t sustain it. I want to start the practice again. Is it fine if i use Holysnc / Hemisync / Lifeflow audio technologies along with your meditation techniques ? would these technologies give me a better/easier meditation experience ?
on September 2nd, 2009 at 6:15 am
Hi Anmol,
I have been consistently practising "Yoga for Healthy weight loss- Kundalini poses" for 6 days now. FYI, I have tried to incorporate "Breath of Fire" wherever required. I have also tried "Yoga for Full body fitness" a couple of times. I now plan to initiate course # 104 (3 sections) wef tommorow as a whole set including 2 pranayamas.
I have a few questions, if you could be kind enough to answer them for me:
1. Is it okay to practice "Yoga for Full body fitness" and "Yoga for Lower Back and Spine" in addition to course # 104? If yes, what should be the weekly frequency for both? Or, is it okay if I continue only with course # 104?
2. Since I have acne, as per your website, I have started practising sheetal pranayama. Is there a specified frequency, number and time for all the pranayamas?
3. If I do daily brisk walking (for 30-60 minutes) along with course # 104, will it provide me sooner benefits?
Waiting in anticipation,
Thanks in advance,
Varsha

Hi Anmol,
three days done. Very successful. Enjoyed yoga and pranayama. Meditation is excellent. When I bring my focus to the center of eye brows and just gaze and witness the body and mind, a sort of yellow light came after a brief frightening darkness. It was very blissful, enjoyable, put me in stillness and felt like bathing in a kind of light inexplicable. Is it okay? Thanks.
on September 16th, 2009 at 1:23 pm
Hi Anmol,
In my experience, concentrating on the third eye region leads to a pressure not at the center of the forehead as you have said multiple times, but actually midway between the eyebrows (just at the root of the nose). Is that incorrect?
on September 16th, 2009 at 1:35 pm
Hi Anmol,
Before going to sleep at night, if I concentrate on my third eye region, I start seeing vivid dreams, with complete storylines and bright colors, especially during early morning hours. Do you think kundalini shakti has anything to do with this?

I have taught a few of them last week and have begun the Fountain of Youth every day. Being a runner the downward facing dog is a great way to stretch the calves and ham strings! It is quite enriching to see how many people out there actually are interested in participating and evolving through yoga exercise and meditation.Everyone can benefit, everyone can find increased flexibility and learn to breathe again! Well done!

Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and a good health shows us the absence of disease or infirmity. In more recent years, this statement has been improved to include the ability to lead a “socially and economically productive life”. This definition is not without criticism, mainly that it is too broad. Some thinks that health cannot be defined as a state at all, but must be seen as a process of continuous adjustment to the changing demands of living and of the changing meanings we give to life. 70-95% of people are classified as unhealthy.
In its most general meaning, physical fitness is a general state of good physical health. A physically handicapped person’s body may be physically fit (healthy), though its ability is likely to be less than optimum.
Physical fitness is usually a result of regular physical activity and proper nutrition.
Physical fitness is often divided into three types:
* Flexibility
* Cardiovascular endurance
* Muscular strength and endurance
Moreover, who doesn’t know that fitness is very useful for pregnancy women, it keeps them fit and maintain a good child’s life.
New research reveals that every woman should take steps today to protect her fertility, whether she has babies on the brain now or can’t imagine being a mom for a while (or ever). This step-by-step plan will not only help you have a healthy family, it’ll keep you strong and fit for years to come.
Pregnancy is a mind-body journey likely to include everything from moody blues to the kicks of tiny feet.
Every woman wants to look very attractive even after she gives a new life. Fitness is forever and every time.
